Hmmmmm....dont let em see you sweat Obots

In a conference call this afternoon, President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign had one central message for their supporters when Election Day arrives tomorrow: They should “keep calm,” even if they hear snippets of information favoring Republican Mitt Romney.

“My warning, we need to stay calm for much of the day,” Stephanie Cutter, Mr. Obama’s deputy campaign manager, said, touting thousands of early ballots already submitted by voters. “We’ve already banked a pretty big portion of our vote.”

The fear, she explained, was early numbers leaking before voters have finished going to the polls, creating unnecessary panic and pessimism among Democrats.

“Keep calm and tweet on,” Ms. Cutter said. “So, no matter what you hear tomorrow about turnout in Republican counties or exit polls, particularly early in the day, please remember and remind your readers that, because of early votes, we’re where we need to be to win….I don’t think there’s going to be official exits until the end of the day, but if things leak out that aren’t validated or weighted, please stay calm.”

Dems lead early Florida vote tally; GOP has reason for optimism

by Lee Ross | November 05, 2012
An examination of the partisan breakdown of Florida's early ballot and absentee returns shows a Democratic advantage going into Election Day, but a far smaller one than enjoyed in 2008 when Barack Obama won the state on his way to the White House.

The numbers provided Sunday by the secretary of state's office show a decline in ballots returned by registered Democrats from four years ago -- and an increase in votes submitted by Republican and independent voters.
Of course, it's unknown who any of the 4.42 million voters actually voted for but registered Democrats returned 160,000 more ballots than registered Republicans. On a percentage basis, 42.8 percent of ballots came from Democrats with 39.2 percent from Republicans. Registered independent or "other" voters account for the balance of early returns, 18 percent.

The good news for Republicans is that in 2008, registered Democrats returned 45.6 percent of early and absentee ballots, with Republicans at 37.3 percent and independents at 17.1 percent. What was an 8-point spread in early votes four years ago is now only 3.6 percent.

The other factor suggesting that Republicans could surpass the apparent Democratic advantage is that in 2008 John McCain only lost the state by 2.8 percent, making up much -- though not all -- of the deficit from the early voters. That strength came from the independents, day-of voters or a combination of both that could this year give Mitt Romney the bump to Florida's 29 electoral votes.

The gross total of early voters is slightly higher from four years ago. Then it was 4.37 million voters. This year's numbers reported Sunday is expected to rise slightly as a Florida judge allowed several early polling stations to open for four extra hours.

Early Voting Results Show Slight Obama Lead

Early voting results for the 2012 presidential election show that President Obama has a slight lead over Mitt Romney in several key states.

More than 27 million voters in 34 states and the District of Columbia took advantage of early voting, but analysts say Romney may still be able to wipe out the president’s lead come Election Day. Votes will not be counted until Tuesday, but several states are releasing the party affiliations of early voters, which is generally a good indication of which candidate they picked.

In Colorado, 1.6 million people voted. Republicans outnumbered Democrats 37 percent to 35 percent.

About 3.9 million people voted in Florida, with Democrats outnumbering Republicans 43 percent to 40 percent. A judge in Orlando extended early voting hours in Orange County after the state Democratic Party sued to give people more time at the polls.

The party also filed a federal lawsuit for more voting time in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties. The lawsuit said counties should offer absentee voting if early voting could not be extended.

Democrats dominated Republicans in North Carolina. Out of 2.5 million voters, 48 percent were Democrats and 32 percent were Republicans.
A total of 628,000 people voted in Nevada, where 44 percent were Democrats and 37 percent were Republicans.

Democrats made up 43 percent of the 614,000 early voters in Iowa. Republicans made up 32 percent.

In Ohio, Democrats made up 29 percent of 1.6 million voters. Republicans were 23 percent of early voters. Party affiliation in that state is based on the last primary in which a voter participated.

In Akron, voters waited an average of two hours Sunday. In Columbus, 15,000 people waited for up to two hours from Friday through Sunday. In Cincinatti, voters waited as long as four hours to cast their ballots.
