Both shoot this round of ammo:




One is considered perfectly useful for "varmint hunting" ..

the other is considered an "assault rifle"


Explain to me the difference when you say one should be banned and one should not

"Assault Weapon" is a completely made up term or what I assume to mean either an assault rifle or assault pistol. Unless you are talking about a fully automatic weapon it is neither an assault rifle or assault pistol. Assault rifles and assault pistols already require an FBI back ground check and I believe a class 3 licsense. Case closed.

Most people think the "AR" in "AR-15" stands for Assault Rifle
