...I'm not 'hip' on all this new fangled iTunes stuff.
question, I have a shit load of songs on my laptop (that I rarely use anymore)......is there a way to be able to access these songs via my iPad? |

On your Laptop in Itunes goto file, home sharing and turn-on home sharing.
Preferences/Sharing has 'Share my library on my local network' checked. On the Ipad is should have an option for Wi-Fi sync. It should work as long as both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network. |

I hate itunes. I prefer Amazon. Amazon allows me to steam music on any device from their cloud. I thought itunes could do the same thing.

What really happens is that if you have something in your library that is sold on the iTunes store you just automatically have access to it in full commercial iTunes non-DRM formats. If it's something not in the store or it can't recognize it because of some crappy metadata then it uploads the tracks to the servers and you can access it anywhere. I've used Match since it launched and I couldn't be happier. Now if I sit down at a new computer, I just sign into iTunes and there's my whole collection. Everything from recent commercial stuff like Daft Punk to old Grateful Dead shows that got uploaded. I think it's great. |

You probably already know this, but just in case I'll mention that you can also just sync selected playlists (or artists, etc.) to your iPad just like you would an iPod.

Can you not just plug the iPad into the computer and sync whatever songs you want that way? Or is the iPad already synced with another computer? If it's not, just sync it with the computer with the songs on it.
Note that you can only sync it with one computer at a time.

This is different than "share my library" which lets other computers with iTunes access the same library. It's kind of a mess. |

FYI.... Sharepod is also a really nice way to get music onto/off your iOS devices without needing to sync to an iTunes library. Great for getting music from someone else's iTunes library that you don't want to sync with.
