Home and Auto power outage question.

Question for the knowledgeable people out there.

I have a power outage in my neighborhood and I have a tenant who lives in my basement apartment.I have a gas furnace that is adjacent to his unit.

I just want to be sure about this, but there's no problem with any gas leaks or carbon monoxide or anything if the power is out, right?

I guess there are all kinds of things that are remotely possible, but in all probability there should be no problem.

The gas valve on the furnace can't open without electricity.

there's a nasty wreck in front of my house now too. when the street lights and the stop lights are out I guess it's hard to notice the intersections.it's worse because it's only one block and all the other blocks around us are lit up.

unfortunately the grocery store is still lit up. But now that you mention it, I have an elderly neighbor who I think has nice furniture.

is the pilot light still lit on the furnace? I have had power outages and as long as the pilot light is still going, but the blower won't go on to blow the heat.

So, as long as the pilot light is still on...no worries. But without elec, there will be no blower.

Even if the pilot light is out the pilot valve won't open without the milliamps from the thermocouple.
