The 2023 Border War installment of our 5 game not a rivalry anymore series swings back to Allen Fieldhouse where already students are camping at numbers that dwarfed our game against UCONN.

KU is still finding itself this year, as usual with early Bill Self teams. Hunter Dickinson fulfills every checkmark of a classically hated Jayhawk. Arrogant, a great flop, questionable athleticism yet can be counted on to pull a double double every night. We would have been runaway title favorites in 2007, but unfortunately, it’s 2023 and today’s game needs outside shooters to go all the way, and we’ve yet to have someone consistently step up to take on that role (this would be a great game for a Furphy coming out party).

Coming to Lawrence for their renewed John Brown invitational is the Mizzou Tigers. I actually don’t know a lot about the Tigers this year. Browsing ESPN it looks like y’all lost to Assberg State but had a helluva comeback agains Minnesota and a dub against Pitt? What’s up with your team this year, Tigers fans? A lot of turnover/young players? Fill us in if you have outside shooters and athletes to swarm Dickinson in the paint and threaten KU’s 3 game winning streak.

Come in, make yourselves at home, and shit talk like it’s 2012 again.

Mizzou playing well this year might make college basketball seem interesting to watch but I doubt it.

I just can't muster the hate anymore. It's just not there. I tried REALLY hard during football season, especially last year during Bowl season. It's just not authentic anymore.

It's a meaningless early season basketball game. Nothing's really on the line. KU will likely win as they are at home and have the more talented team.

Maybe if they met in an NCCA Tourney game someday the hate would be stoked back up, but outside of that, meh.

I get it. It’s hard to hate a program in football when you ducked a bowl matchup with them last season.

Kind of like Bill Self and KU ducked Mizzou for years cause they were butthurt about them leaving the Big 12?

It's fun to go back and forth once in a while, but again, the hate's just not there anymore.

"Ducking" is an interesting term to use given the context and the stature of those two programs. I'd say "ignoring" would be more accurate.

You can call it whatever you want but they 'avoided' playing Mizzou because they were pouting and upset over them leaving.

That part really isn't even up for debate in lieu of some of Self's comments.

mutts don’t have any rivals anymore. I guess arky is it for them but that’s just fabricated bullshit because they share a state line. They don’t have any hate anymore and nobody really hates or cares about them outside of their own fanbase. They just exist in the same way a school like Rutgers does.

I’ll still enjoy watching ku put 90 on them all the same

Yup. Arky is the rival now. Border state, compete for same recruits in football and basketball. Coaches in football and basketball changing teams from one to another (Anderson, Odom, etc.). Obviously, not the long term tradition that MU-KU had, but that takes time to build. Arky fans legit hate Mizzou, so that's fun.

Looking forward to Oklahoma joining the SEC next year as that will bring in an old Big 8 rival, lot of history there from years back, so that will be good.

Oh, and **** Texas! Hope Michigan destroys them in the playoff and I hate the BIG10!
