Growing tobacco versus marijuana

The first retail marijuana places will open up on January 1st here in Denver. I think they're mostly moving into old Blockbuster and Kenny Rogers Roasters locations.

Anyway, the latest debate is production. They've got big warehouses now that are growing the stuff commercially, but apparently people can also grow their own, and the debate now is the limit (now set at 6 per person and 12 per household as of last night): http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_24...lants-no-front

It got me wondering, though. What's the advantage in growing it yourself? Is it just cheaper? And if it's cheaper, why don't people grow their own tobacco for cigarettes? You never hear about people growing their own tobacco.

So four to six ounces per year isn't anywhere near average annual consumption. If you want to stay legal, you'd still be buying 80 percent of your product through the retail system. Maybe that's how the business model works.

Well, that and it sounds like it may not be worth growing one's own in a legal environment.

Tobacco is a fairly labor-intensive crop to grow. The leaves are large and have to be hung up on rafters and cured. It can even be somewhat hazardous work. Also, much better suited to southern climates. Growing tobacco is basically a industrial process. I know nothing about growing marijuana, but imagine it would be more feasible to grow in a home setting than tobacco.

I have the card and you can grow 6 planets in So CA... if you are caught selling it you will lose your card and get fine or jail... but you can trade strains with other ppl with card. Police out here fly over your homes and your are not in the State data file.I had the card since 2008, I bet we go legal within a few years but I have Achalasia and getting high helps me relax and my esophageal stops spazzing out. Over drinking is what caused this.

Rain Man, I love ya brother, you're one of my favorite posters but you strike me as a guy who research a vagina before getting laid.

I can have up to three plants in my house in CA with my medicinal prescription, but I haven't made a move on it yet. I'd have to grow indica (don't have room for a much larger sativa plant) and indica requires 12 hours of sun with 12 hours of dark. Just not ready for the commitment.

Besides, I have a few friends who grow. One of them brought over a mason jar filled with medicinal grade stuff. I haven't bought any for months.

I want to sit in a store front window and roll blunts like cigars. I wouldn't even mind the salsa music.

Mine start smelling really good after a couple of months into it but outside takes almost 6 months so you have to get a cycle going

consider perpetual growing. get into a routine of cutting a plant a month. You can always control the height of a plant which will then limit how much you'll harvest. Keep a plant around a foot tall by just topping it and it'll produce no more than an ounce or 2.

Wow, Katipan. You're like a friend that just shows up out of the blue every 12+ months with a jug of wine when she wants to party then vanishes again.

Good to see ya batman (girl).

Hopefully if it is legal jobs have to stop firing or not hiring you if it comes up on pre/during employment blood test drug screenings.
