NFL.com Now Has Chiefs Ranked #6 Overall...Says SB Is Possible

NFL.com just came out with their new post preseason rankings and has the Chiefs as #6 overall and the favorite to win the AFC West over Denver who they now have ranked #13. Ike Taylor says "the cement has finally settled in Andy Reid's new house in KC" and that the roster is deep top to bottom.

3 Best AFC Teams (according to Demeshek and Taylor) are...

1. Colts (#3 in NFL)
2. Pittsburgh (#5 in NFL)
3. Chiefs (#6 in NFL)

(Patriots were #12 in NFL and #6 in AFC)
(Broncos were #13 in NFL and #7 in AFC)

thoughts?

Honestly... Smith will be Smith. Like him or hate him, Smith will be Smith. It all hinges on the o line. If the o line is solid then all the plays that many here hate will work better and more consistently. Plus he'll actually get to challenge deeper down field - occasionally. It won't be bombs away, but he'll keep the defense honest. I doubt his play will change much... it will just open up because the line is allowing it to open up. It will be very similar to what you saw in the 3rd pre-season game. Just moving the ball downfield. If the oline holds, and the injury bug doesn't strike, then that's what you'll see.

That's kind of surprising to me. I'll gladly take this year over last year.

In favor of their take:

1) we have a deep team. In fact, we have as deep a team as I can remember and I have been following this team since the late 70s;
2) we look like we can have a dominating defense. True, the game these days favors a dominating offense, but our offense only has to be adequate if our defense lives up to its potential;
3) we have a lot of offensive tools: a receiving corps that looks like it can catch; excellent RBs (I'm thinking of Charles and West primarily); and a top-3 TE;
4) Our starting QB does not make many mistakes;

Factors against:

1) Our O-Line is a big question mark. The pre-season has looked good at times but continuity among o-line play is a key to their continued success and unfortunately, we haven't had much continuity;
2) Our QB may not lose us games with mistakes but he won't win games with his skill;
3) Fivehead is still in our Division and his team looks to have a pretty good defense this year

If the ball bounces right, I could see us finally winning a playoff game or two. If the ball doesn't bounce right, I could see us sitting on the sideline. Given the depth of the team, I think we would have to have several major injuries before we could blame the injury bug. We had it last year. Odds would suggest we won't have that 2 years in a row, but you never know.

I get the sense that KC means business and that they've finally paid attention to both sides of the ball. Marty built a defense that caused nightmares but we couldn't score, especially in the playoffs. Dick Vermeil's teams could light up the scoreboard but we couldn't stop anybody. This will be an interesting year.

I agree fully.

I think I've heard the word SuperBowl from every players mouth. That's the clear goal this team and its players have for themselves and this squad.

I can't remember a Chiefs team clearly state that a Super Bowl is their goal this year so much...or even at all.

It's sooooo refreshing after years of "just trying to get better everyday" and "the process" kinda crap we've been fed for years.

I LOVE this front office and coaching staff.

We're gonna be in the big picture of things a lot going forward.

Well obviously... But that the thing with PROJECTIONS, they usually talk about the end.

And if they are saying a super bowl is possible they are also projecting us to win a couple playoff games.

Not sure I understand the point of your post.

I don't think the Steelers are going to be very good. Their defense is atrocious.

I just hope it's a tight race and a lot of good divisional play.

It must be really tough for you. The media constantly sucking the cum from your balls. And it doesn't matter. From Cutler to tebow to Peyton. The media has been on their knees for the past decade decreeing your greatness. Forgive Chiefs fans for having legit optimism.

And it means absolute shit. Every year someone who is going to be great sucks. The only guarantee is that the raiders and Browns will suck.

To each their own I guess. I just find it phenomenally stupid that people think Andy and Dorsey are going to be satisfied with 9-7.

The Chiefs went 2-14 three years ago. Just making the playoffs would be awesome

It doesn't matter what they are satisfied with. Do you think any coach is satisfied with anything ever?
