"Is Having Alex Smith the Worst Purgatory in Football?"--Dan LeBatard

He mentioned it a few times on his radio show today. The quotes in reference is from the top of the second hour. in full:

"What is the worst purgatory in football? Is it Alex Smith, where you're going to be OK, and hugely boring, and never win anything, or is it the whole Philip Rivers situation of always being down late and having to go the whole length of the field?"

"It's not Hell; it's Purgatory. You're OK, but you're not good enough and you're not going to be good enough."

"You're not going to do any sort of meaningful winning with Alex Smith as your QB. Nothing."

"It's hard to watch when you watch what they were playing against and he's, 'all I wanna do is not turn the ball over, all I wanna do is it's 3rd and 9 and I'll throw it three yards, or I'll take a sack.'"

"You'll get to the playoffs, and you'll lose."

I wish we could rewind. I'd take away all our big offensive contracts apart from rbs and spend every dollar on top shelf defensive talent.
Chiefs overvalue RBs to a fault... Most expendable position in the league they value the most...

Its the Marty curse.

Tyrod Taylor had a better passer rating, QBR, YPA, scored more TDs and turned the ball over less than Alex last year and is having a slightly better season than Alex so far this year.

In Blake Bortles second year as a pro, he had 37 touchdowns and threw for a sliver under 4,500 yards.

But these teams are looking for a new QB huh? SMFH.

Thats what everyone said last year when we started 1-5 and I kept telling people they could still make the playoffs.

The Chiefs are 2-2. Which is about what we expected if we looked at the schedule before the year at this point. Nobody was thinking we would go into Pitt and win.

I'm not saying the sky is falling, but people keep pointing to cracking off 11 straight wins like that is something we can now expect from this team. Good luck with that.

And great. They made the playoffs.

And were extremely fortunate they drew the Texans and Brian Hoyer instead of a rematch against the Bengals, because it sure as hell wasn't Andy Dalton that kept the Chiefs' offense from coming away with nothing but a slew of FGs last Fall.

Whatever. I'm tired of having the discussion at this point.

He's not good enough but we're stuck with him. Just try and enjoy the low-scoring snoozefests until he's gone.

Bortles threw for 4,500 yards in a season in which his team went 5-11. Tyrod Taylor is 1 game over .500 as a starting QB. Alex Smith is 32-18 as a starter with the Chiefs.

Let me know if Taylor and Bortles are the the starting QBs for their teams in 2018.

Honestly, I really don't give a shit about the details. It more about about the broader message.

Thank you for posting team stats. Another thing that is so comical about using the "well that QB's team sucked so of course he threw for a lot of yards and touchdowns" excuse to explain Alex's lack of production in comparison is the fact that Alex played for real shit teams too.....where was his big production because he was always playing from behind? Oh yeah thats right. It didnt exist.

2018 is your barometer? Alex might not be starting by then either so I dont get your point. But I bet you Bortles at the very least is starting in 2018.

dismissing team stats in one category, but allowing team stats in others...

well done.

Everyone should just step away, and enjoy your real lives. Bitching and moaning won't change anything. It's a game of football. They will either get better or not. They will either make QB changes, or not. Perspective. If this game affects you so much, then you're doing it wrong.

Bitching and moaning finally got the last QB benched. And even if it doesn't change anything, it's all we have.

Michael Vick
Detroit Lions
Broken Manning

Buffalo Bills
7th pick Ravens
Cleveland Browns

What an accomplishment.

If only we could get so lucky in pathetic schedules every year, to ultimately achieve so little.

FYP.

What wasn't really popular to point out is that the hapless Chargers -in spite of Dee Ford's heroics- took KC to the wire at home and had a handful of chances for a walk off TD win and eked out another home win against the Raiders thanks to enough sand having run out of the hourglass by the time Carr got to take the field for his last possession.

They got lucky in coming out on top of those one possession games as well as facing two 3rd-stringes in Jones and Clausen.
