How Patrick Mahomes is saving one of the league's most loyal, but jaded, fanbases
https://sports.yahoo.com/patrick-mah...213946967.html
Fantastic article by Terez Paylor Decades of frustration losing to elite QBs Prior to moving to Kansas City in 2006, I had little understanding of the scars that had been left on Chiefs fans. As a Lions fan, I’d put my wounds up against anyone’s, and Detroit hadn’t gone 0-16 by then — that would come two years later. But over the past 12 years, I’ve gained a serious appreciation for everything Chiefs fans have been through. That Super Bowl victory? It came in January 1970. You know who wasn’t even born then? Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes, who was born in August of that year. So yeah, whatever Super Bowl grace period the Chiefs got from their fans has long expired. Fans who, by the way, have stayed unbelievably loyal along the way. Despite being in one of the NFL’s smallest markets, the Chiefs are consistently among the league’s best in attendance. Their payoff for that has been null and void, as the list of playoff horrors inflicted upon the Chiefs by opposing franchise quarterbacks over the past 25 years is borderline sadistic, like a football version from the mind of Eli Roth. The Chiefs were one of the winningest team of the 1990s, only to see their good fortune immediately run out — Wile E. Coyote-style — immediately upon entering the playoffs. Why Monday’s performance was so critical His killer performance in the regular-season finale against Denver last December only heightened anticipation. And while some rushed to say that wasn’t indicative of what he could do as a quarterback, what Mahomes accomplished through the first three games of the season — 66 completion percentage, 944 yards, 13 touchdowns, zero interceptions — was enough to vault him into the early discussion for league MVP. Then came Monday night, a prime-time showdown against an AFC West rival, the Denver Broncos. Many rushed to call this the perfect setting for a coming-out party or coronation, but what the Chiefs really needed was an exorcism. For 16 seasons, this was the place where Chiefs fans were tortured by a gunslinger, a man had an obscene arm and made unfair throws and had a knack for bringing his team back late. |

It's been a while since I read any article that so succinctly describes EXACTLY what I think and feel.
I mean sure, he forgot the torturous Matt Cassel disaster and the 'can't get a single first down in an entire half because Herm' game, but yeah. Patrick Mahomes elway'd the broncos. It's football jesus to me. He has exercised the demons. This fanbase.... is clear |

We’re witnessing the greatest QB play in franchise history. No Chiefs QB has ever come close to a 4 game stretch like Mahomes just put together.

A quick review of franchise history shows that Chiefs QBs have exceeded 1200 yards in a four-game stretch 16 times. Many of these are four-game segments of longer streaks, as you'll see below. This is only the seventh season where it has occurred.
Patrick Mahomes II's streak is notable because it features (among these 16 streaks)... the most TD passes (14, second place is Bill Kenney's 10 between weeks 12 and 15 of 1983 the highest QB rating (126.5, second place is Trent Green's 116.1 between weeks 5 and 8 of 2004 the fewest interceptions (0, tied with Alex Smith's 0 between weeks 4 and 7 of 2017) the second-fewest sacks (5, beaten only by Joe Montana's 3 between weeks 3 and 6 of 1994) the youngest QB (age 22 at beginning, second place is Bill Kenney who was 28 in 1983). Week Week Year Yds 8 11 Elvis Grbac 2000 1463 7 10 Trent Green 2004 1450 6 9 Elvis Grbac 2000 1400 7 10 Elvis Grbac 2000 1388 12 15 Bill Kenney 1983 1365 5 8 Trent Green 2004 1342 6 9 Trent Green 2004 1338 8 11 Trent Green 2004 1269 7 10 Bill Kenney 1983 1263 6 9 Trent Green 2003 1247 6 9 Bill Kenney 1983 1243 9 12 Trent Green 2004 1240 3 6 Joe Montana* 1994 1239 9 12 Bill Kenney 1983 1238 4 7 Alex Smith 2017 1205 1 4 Patrick Mahomes 2018 1200 So yes, I would agree that this is the greatest QB streak in franchise history.

Sincerely... I hope you guys enjoy the ride. If you do indeed have 12-15 years of sustained greatness, don't screw up your enjoyment of the games and the career with over-inflated hopes and dreams of a title now and every year.
Know what I mean? There are so many posts out there about different things and I get it, I totally get it. Just enjoy the ride ... that's my lone advice. Enjoy the process of watching this QB and this offense mature and rewrite record books. He's fun to watch, I'll easily admit. You guys have screamed for a QB like this for decades... you have him, enjoy him.

Cassel owes those stats to Todd Haley.
