Your final 53

Call your final 53. Be prepared to defend your roster.

OFF (25)
QB (2) Mahomes, Henne
RB (3) CEH, McKinnon, Williams
FB (0)
WR (6) Hill, Hardman, Pringle, DRob, Fountain, Kemp
TE (4) Kelce, Bell, Fortson, Gray
OT (4) Brown, Niang, Remmers, PTW
OG (4) Thuney, Smith, LDT, Allegretti
C (2) Humphrey, Blythe
DEF (25)
DE (6) Clark, Jones, Okafor, Danna, Kaindoh, T. Ward, Harris
DT (4) Nnadi, Reed, Wharton, Saunders
LB (5) Gay, Hitchens, Bolton, Niemann, Cobb
CB (6) Sneed, C. Ward, Fenton, Hughes, Keyes, Baker
S (4) Mathieu, Sorenson, Thornhill, Watts
ST (3)
Winchester, Townsend, Butker
My logic is:
Williams over Gore since Williams is a good blocker. No FB because both Gray and Fortson can play H-back. LDT is too expensive to cut. Allegretti and Blythe can both play C/G. I never want to see Wylie in a Chiefs uniform again and the Prince looks good. DRob and Kemp because there's no one else. Blythe can be put on IR after the final roster for a pick up.
Jones can play inside and out, so it's really 5 and 5 on the D-line. I question Clark's future. Cobb over DOD any day of the week.
I'd like to figure out some way to keep Buechele, but I can't seem to find a viable cut. I'm not sure I want to part ways with either Bell or Blythe just yet.

Yes and no.

Like accuracy as a thrower, I think you can improve it in the margins. And his open field vision is still pretty excellent. So that's why I fall back on it being a timing/rhythm thing. He's just not quite ready at the hand-off.

I think can get the game to slow down a bit for him with reps and that timing will fall back into place for him. I just saw too many instances of him doing it well in college to think it's not something that can be unlocked at this level.

At WR, if John Brown gets cut by the Raiders as seems possible, I'd maybe kick the tires there. Then again, if he's getting cut by the Browns he's probably toast. I've always liked Brown.

Would also look at LB with Gay's injury and DoD being extremely 'meh'. Rams are said to be peddling Micah Kiser - he's probably nothing but he was an interesting looking prospect coming out.
I'm gonna hope Gay's toe isn't something to bad and he's fine by next week so I'm good there.

The issue it seems we're gonna run into is that the spots we need to start looking to upgrade aren't easily found nor are they cheap.

We're gonna need an ass kicker at DE sooner or later as Frank seems to be doing....well whatever it is that he does and is likely gone after this season. Maybe Jones can do it full time, but I think you need a speed legit dude out there at some point. Those dudes usually go early round 1 and we ain't gonna be in that spot for a while.

I'm not sure how or where you find that dude at.

That's the thing, it was what he was known for at LSU. It may be one of those "you're heads in the way" kind of things where he just needs reps to get it over with.

Smith has way too much of his compensation tied up in base salary. He's due $7.2 million this year - he's not worth that.

He's been pretty exposed since Vander Esch got hurt.

Like I said - It just didn't seem that difficult. And man is this better than the old days of being upset because the 54th guy probably wasn't any worse than the 35th.

I couldn't give a large rats ass if we retain any of these probable bubble cuts. There are people worried about losing Prince Tangowhatever and a random Gore (no, I never bothered to learn this person's first name). Who cares? These are nothing players in the grand scheme of things. They'd have been gameday inactives every week unless some RB gets hurt in which case we'll plug in a different fungible ball-carrier.

We good.
Prince tega is a damn good LT prospect who is only 23 and is only with us because he had injury problems in philly..otherwise he'd probably be starting for them by now. Imo it would be silly to let him go when remmers, blyth, allegretti, ldt and long are all free agents next offseason plus we have no other natural LT on the roster either..do you really want to see remmers there again? Smh.

We've invested enough in the LB spot. The dudes we drafted need to play.

CEH gets a pass for last season...no legit preseason and a pretty terrible run blocking OL.

Guy looked like Barry Sanders Jr. in his college highlights....his instincts are what really jumped out.

I was surprised he wasn't utilized more in the screen game...but its more about Mahomes style of pushing the ball down field...

My concern with CEH is that he may lack the top end speed to actually do anything with some of these holes. It's like, he can make the LB miss in the hole and then by the time he makes the 3rd level miss, the 2nd level guys are tackling him from behind.

Now if ESPN would just add Jody Fortson to the fantasy section that would be great

Remmers is OK as a RT. The one I never want to see anywhere along that line is Wylie.

Allegretti is under contract through 2022. But agree, makes sense to keep Prince Tega Wanogho around

He's never gonna be Jamaal and just make guys look stupid, breaking long runs etc.

But there aren't many dudes that are like that either.

I sort of expected that, though.

And it didn't bother me - I'll take a consistent 3 yards over 7-0-2. What's important for this running game is to stay at/near the sticks or be able to pick up short yardage. If he were never anything more than the version of Marcus Allen we had that seemed to always pick the right spot to be and gain 3-4 yards, that would be just fine and hugely valuable. The running game is not and should not be a focal point of this offense - its a complement. And a consistently productive 'churn' would be extremely useful.

My concern is not the top end to blast through the hole into the second level - it's that sometimes he's not seeing the hole at all and he's running into his linemen.

You combine the lack of breakaway speak with the occasional wasted carry from not seeing a hole and putting us behind the sticks, then you have a real question as to what he actually brings to the running game. And then if you see the team still putting Williams and McKinnon out there on 3rd downs because of pass protection issues w/ CEH you start to ask what value he really brings at all.

And again - all of that is worst case scenario stuff. That's not to say it's time to close the book on the kid at all. It's just the inklings of a worry that I'm starting to get with him. On a mediocre team, I wouldn't worry about it because there would be bigger issues. On this team, its worth wondering. Because there aren't many nits to pick here.

There is no way in hell a better WR than our top 3 or even 4 is going to be released.
