Love me some George Brett even though he has been, at times, a cantankerous butt hole to reporters and fans.

This guy got his autograph back in 1979 on a Grand Slam program after a game against the Twins, and we were on the front page of the KC Star the next day. That's it. My only brush with greatness.

George Brett and Rickey Henderson are the best baseball players I have ever seen.

But, don't meet your heroes. I have told the story before, but, as a child, I ended up at a Dinner with Brett at The Golden Ox. My father knew someone, who knew Brett, etc. etc.

Brett was an asshole to me, a small child eating at his table, he was an asshole to the staff, he was an asshole to people outside the restaurant waiting, and basically was an asshole to everyone and everything. This would have been about 1980, but it could have been 1979. It was sometime before the Phillies world series in 80.

I still loved watching him play after that, but I didn't like him as much. I would still like to know the names of the voters who didn't vote him in the HOF. Like, 98% is crazy, but realistically he should have had 100%.

I’ve heard so many stories like this.. George being an asshole to kids and people… Tarnishes his legacy as far as I’m concerned… Doesn’t take that much energy to be a good guy..You would of thought he would have learned that lesson because of his father being such a jerk..
Mahomes already surpassed him as the greatest professional player ever in KC.. Class on the field and off..

I think George has good and bad days like all of us do. I went to Cooperstown to see his induction. He and Otis Taylor were my KC sports heroes growing up. Like Len Dawson, Brett decided to stay in KC and make this home. He could have gone back to California, but stayed. As far as kids go, one of my experiences was back about 20 years ago. My wife and I took a bunch of grade school kids to the Nelson Art Gallery, and afterwards the school bus pulled into Winstead's for lunch. At a booth was George and his family. The kids were losing their mind because they recognized him right away. They were all buzzing and staring at him. My wife went over to him and said "Mister Brett, these kids are from Lexington here on a field trip. They all love you. Would you take a picture with them out by the school bus?" He said "Let me finish having lunch and get my family to the car, then I'll do it, ok?" And he did. He met the kids at the bus and took a group picture with them. It was a nice thing to do and the kids were freaking out. Later my wife mailed him a Lexington Art Club T-Shirt to Kauffman Stadium. I'm sure he probably used it to wax his car

I can see that too. Noticed zero mention of his mother, I would've assumed she helped out considering how much of a jerk his dad was to him. Young George kindve has that greinke look
