I admit that when seattle selected alexander ahead of us, i thought we missed out on all the money players after alexander was gone. I'm glad that we got the cat and that the chiefs finally got a first round draft pick right!

I think the Chiefs did fine with Morris, but I'm not making judgement on who got the better deal yet... Alexander looks like he will be a very fine back.

Alexander would have been just another non-voting member of the Committee. Morris cracked the starting lineup and is contributing. That’s not to say that Morris is a better athlete than Alexander, but in the Chiefs system, even a veteran HB is not going to play every down, much less a rookie. But a rookie can start as a WR.

I don’t see the logic, but it is clear that this is the Chiefs staff’s view.

I remember that there was considerable speculation that we would draft Alexander and trade him for Dillon. Based on his performance on and off the field this season, I’m very pleased at the way it turned out, but it does raise an interesting What If.

Would the same Committee mentality have applied had we traded for Dillon?

Gaz, i dont think so , it seems that the chiefs tend to give free agents the ball with no questions asked and makes their own draft picks work their way into the starting line up. That does not say much for their draft day decesions (example mike cloud)

I think they are both going to be fine players... but I am of the opinion it's easier to fid a franchise WR than to find a franchise back.

I had Alexander rated as the best back in the draft... IMO he's going to be a very special player. I wish he wasn't in our division.<BR>

Great point on the franchise WR vs. RB

Chiefs have been in search of a franchise RB since Okoye left, and conceivably, it could be said that there have been few, if any, true franchise RB's in our system (Abner Haynes, Mike Garrett, Joe D., Christian Okoye were not HOF types, IMO). In addition, sadly, the Chiefs only true franchise WR since Otis Taylor has been Carlos Carson, unless you can count Gonzo in that group and certainly he is our best weapon.

Point is, we've lacked both for a long time.

Alexander would not have been another cog in the committee - that guy is a player! Sucks that he went to a division rival.

Morris was a good pick. As I stated before the draft, if we don't draft Shawn Alexander, we should draft Dez White or Sylvester Morris - we were forced to take the latter. (I'm glad now - don't think Dez White is exactly tearing it up...)

Earlier this season, quite a few people wrote that maybe we should tank and get one of the top picks in the draft. I know this isn't exactly on topic, but hear me out. If we were to get one of the top ten draft choices, we would have to shell out significant dough for a DRAFT PICK, ie Courtney Brown, Arrington, etc. That could be as much as 10 million per year. So, basically, it's a VERY expensive, young restricted free agent. However, if you draft near the middle to the end of the first round, you can still get GREAT talent at a much cheaper price tag, ie Gonzalez, Tait, Riley, SlyMO, Woods, etc. I mean, look at SlyMo's contract compared to Browns!!! So, in today's salary cap world, teams that are moderately successful on the field and good evalutators of talent can reap the benefits of both worlds, without missing out on exceedingly superior prospects. Just a thought!

The teams that have consistantly picked in the top ten really dont have an all around team, so the money is spent on the high draft pick and watered down talent around these players until they build a nucleus oftalent in the draft like the colts or the rams.

The problem is CP has shown marginal ability to find the skill position players at the mid to low end of the 1st round. So in effect, we get exactly what we pay for!

I'd still prefer this to crappy seasons to net a top ten pick. Tait @12 even lower than I thought I could take once the winning tradition is built.
