Is anyone seriously scared of the Raiders?

Yes, they got some nice shiny toys for the offense.

But Norv Turner is still their head coach and Chiefs fans know how well keeping the same players and changing the scheme works for fixing a defense.

He still sucks. He's over the hill, fat, and not half the player he once was. Moving him a couple feet over isn't going to amount to a hill of beans. Especially against KC.

Tyler Brayton is an example of a player who's going to be helped by the scheme move. Warren Sapp is not. Why do you think Tampa Bay had almost zero interest in resigning him?

I recorded that game and watched that particular play a few times. Moss ran a slant into the post and Collins threw the ball behind Moss. There was nothing forced in his throw. He simply made a bad throw. Had Collins properly led Moss you'd have to find another single-drive example of what you'd "like to think... will be indicative of a season." Besides, isn’t it a bit silly for anyone to pretend a single series of plays is indicative of a season not yet played, especially when the person making that remark himself said, “Preseason means absolute jack shiat?”
The safety came UP to intercept the ball. No matter where Collins threw it, it was going to be a pick. The safety was sitting there playing centerfield.

Yeah, of course it's silly. Hence "I'd like to think."

Yes, preseason means little. But Collins has a history of being a bonehead.

If we had the KC Chiefs defense, I'd be scared of Oakland.

I think Moss will definitely make Collins look better than he is at times. It's not really rocket science to tell the QB to throw the football as far as he can, and have a WR that can outrun everybody and get to it almost without fail...

Yeah.. Try to bring down a 230lb RB who runs a 4.4/40 who has just turned the corner on the sidelines and is headed back towards the middle of the field. And you're the SS. As you glance around with what periferal vision you have and notice there's no one within 5 yrds of said RB and as the last line of defense, you the SS have to stop him. BTW you weigh 200.

BTDT. More than a few times.

Yeah, it can get complicated.

As you have already demonstrated your opinions are many and, since no one can be wrong all the time, some of them are bound to be correct. Maybe your opinion of Sapp is one of those times. We’ll see soon enough.

I don’t know why Tampa Bay let Sapp walk and likely neither do you, unless you were part of their management team. My guess is you weren’t. Do you really believe the media has all the details to Tampa Bay’s reasons why yes why no regarding Sapp?

Look, it’s fine if you’re strafing Oakland players just because it makes you happy. Knock yourself out.

The offense was 10 yards from the goal line. Had Collins thrown the ball properly Moss’ body would have been between the safety and the ball. Unless “playing centerfield” means the safety was somewhere in front of the goal line your pick-no-matter-where theory doesn’t hold up.

So then, you understand how other people might have little regard for what you think?

The “bonehead” took his first team to a NFC championship game. He took his second team to a Super Bowl. Maybe, just maybe, he’s a little wiser and a more competent QB than you give him credit. If history of seasons past is your only measuring stick then I understand your concern regarding Collins. Then again, history suggests your team won’t participate in the Super Bowl during your lifetime. History’s a funny thing, yes?

What worries me about *gag* the R aiders, is the offense. Poopoo it all you want but they have Moss, Porter and Curry as well as a bonafide RB. Their O line is also decent if not spectacular. Collins may not be the end all and be all but the dude can throw a deep ball (which coincidentally is Moss' strong point).

Their D is what is going to be their Achilles heel this year. They are going to be like KC version 2002-2004. Score a lot of points, hope like hell the other team don't score more. The AFCW is going to be INTENSELY competitive this year.

They sort of remind of the Rams with all their talent at wide out. I can't remember but how many times has the Rams beat us since they went to St. Louis?

No. Norv Turner has never been all that good. Moss and Porter are an elite tandem, and Lamont Jordan should be at least an average quality NFL back. I like the QB fine, especially with the deep ball, but their OLine sucks ass, which is going to hurt everything they try to do.

Their defense is under a young coordinator (Ryan) in only his second yard as a DC. His first year was spent mucking around with a 3-4 that failed abysmally, and now he's switching back to 4-3, using some players who are wonderfully suited for that role.

Their DLine is yet another year old, and not particularly more talented, their LBs not very good, and their secondary spotty.

So no, not much to fear here. Mediocre head coach and offensive and defensive lines equals nothign to worry about.

I'm looking forward to my boys dismantling them a week from today.

I think Collins is a perfectly serviceable NFL QB. Not great, but definitely not terrible. His deep throws are especially good (above average), and with Moss (only the biggest deep threat in NFL history) and Porter (another good deep threat), their offense is definitely menacing.

I'm thinking, however, that you're going to see your team with ALOT of third and longs this year. Long throws are nice and exciting, but your OLIne isn't necessarily good enough to protect Collins long enough for the play to develop.

Offenses these days usually live by generating good drives marching down the field. The Mad Bomber days are over. I'm not sure Al Davis realizes that.

This is why I love Raider fan, wiser and competent= a qb who has 154 career INT vs. 153 career TD's and in the biggest game of his career choked and threw only 1 td,which just happened to be to the other team.

I will say you're correct on the history of KC,however,I sleep very well at night knowing that KC still holds the upper hand in head-to-head match-ups with the silver and black and that even when your team had Gannon they still couldn't get the job done and Rich set a record for INT's in the biggest game of his career.
