Dakota Fanning to be raped onscreen

This is disturbing. I hope people boycott this movie because there's no need for crap like this.

Dakota, 12, to star in 'disturbing paedophile film'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes.

War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog.

The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments.

A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals.

"In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star.

But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's War of the Worlds have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors, according to the New York Daily News.

The film charts the life of a girl who is abused and finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley.

Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was stopped because of a lack of money.

But emergency investors were found and the movie is set to be finished by the end of the week.

"It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Fanning's agent, Osbrink, said.

"And I've never been so proud of her in my life. In every scene she gets better and better."

And what I said about the counselors was that they were there before shooting. Obviously, they would be there afterwards if needbe, but the point is to make the actor acutely aware of what is going on before the scenes take place. Dakota seems like a fairly bright 12-year-old. I'm pretty sure she understands the difference between real life and making a movie.

Linda Blair has said in some interviews that while she was making The Exorcist, everyone around her was very comforting and worried about what she was going through -- she said she didn't know what the big deal was, it was just a movie. She knew that at 14 years old. Why can 30-, 40-, and 50-year-old adults understand that?
To me, depicting a 12 year girl having sex with an adult (consentual or not) is not art. And, yes, I do realize it's a movie, that they're not actually "doing it", and that it's not child porn. I'm not saying I wouldn't go see it. I just think that the mom is doing it for her own gain. A lot of parents live vicariously through their children. Their child's success is their own type of thing. The director is going to do what he's going to do regardless of which actress he has in the scene. I'm more disturbed that a mother would allow it is all. I don't know the whole situation, so that's JMO.

Just out of curiosity, would you find it wrong if a 12 year old was depicted being murdered violently (i.e. a movie about the Holocaust or slavery)? Do you think that the depiction of it on the big screen would be worth it to let millions see the dark side of human nature?

Millions see the dark side of human nature everyday. Just watch the news. As for the Holocaust, I've read books and pictured enough horrible stuff in my head.

I'm not saying I wouldn't go see it, or that I haven't. I'm just saying that I wouldn't let my child do something like what this thread is about. Then again, I'm not a parent, so what do I know?

So you wouldn't?

That's cool. There's nothing wrong with that, but at the same time your post made me curious if you only had this attitude towards things sexual in nature, or everything of an adult content.

Although I am of the persuasion this sort of thing does more good than harm, I would never say your opinion isn't valid. As a matter of fact it has a lot of logical integrity to it, something which is hard to find in most people's beliefs.

I think people depend more on movies than books. Half of what I've seen is much less brutal than what I had pictured in my head from reading a book on a related subject. No matter what the content was. Will I go see it? Yes. Do I agree with it? Probably not. Does that make me a hypocrite? If so, I know plenty of others. Safety in numbers, you know.

And see I'm of the persuasion that the more senses you can involve in something the more vivid it becomes. Just imagine if during a gunfight scene you could smell the gunpowder or something of that sort. It would make the movie seem a lot more vivid.

Some people do imagine a lot in their head, and some don't. Those who do think its best left to the imagination, while others seem to think its better when shown. Although I have a strong imagination, I respond a lot more to actually seeing it, cause then I have a concrete image that cannot be altered. Then again, I'm a very visual learner.

And although I'm not for the exposure of an underage woman on film, I do believe it will succeed in its intention of shocking and horrifying the viewer about this taboo part of society.

IMO, the movie will flop cause people don't want to see things they don't like. People want to be entertained, and if they aren't, they don't watch it.

So hmm, it seems to me people dislike the mom more so than it actually happening.

Even though in reality...we know nothing of the situation or the intentions.

I know a guy that's 22 who I would question whether he's old enough to be driving or not.

And I agree. I don't think people would be in such an uproar if the actress was older.

See, I have no doubt that she knows the difference between real life and a movie. What I don't know is how this kind of simulation is going to effect her psychologically. Most 12 year old kids have no clue what rape even is really. If anything, they know it to mean being forced to have sex against your will. Since they really don't understand sex, simulating this act not only teachs this girl the act of sex, but she's also instructed on how to respond regarding being raped. To me the gates are being opened a little too much on such a young imagination and could potentially fuck her up for a long, long time. She's getting a little too close to the action as far as I'm concerned to not have a major adverse effect on her psychological development. All of that being said, I'm not her dad, it's none of my business. Doesn't mean I don't think her parents are ****ed up for it though. They get losers of the year in my books.
