Tax Preparation Software
Is there one that is really as good as going to H&R Block and having it done? It would need to be some very complete software as I have no idea what I'd be doing? I hate spending $125 at H&R Block but I really hate waiting for an hour each time.

Are your taxes going to be pretty straightforward? If so, then I would recommend just going with one of the free or cheap online services like TurboTax.

I've used TurboTax online for the last five years. Personally, it works great for me. I do itemize, but otherwise mine isn't too complicated. The site and program, from my point of view, are very user friendly and helpful. JMHO.

I always use TurboTax. If your taxes are straight forward - I have a fed return, state return and I itemize - then its the way to go. And its a LOT cheaper than H&R Block.

I’ve been using Turbo-tax for something like 12 years,

Started using it when we started up a day care center in the house, went to a local guy who was retiring and didn’t want any more clients to take on long term.

He suggested that I use Turbo-Tax.

I utilize the Home and Business version along with Quicken Books for Home and Business, takes very little time to do both the business and the personal taxes as it pulls all the info from Quicken.

I use Turbo Tax as well, I tried the HR Block software and didn't like it.

I have been using TaxAct basic online for years now. FREE filing too.

Can't beat that.

I had been doing our (includes wifes sole proprietor self employed) on Turbo Tax for Business. Went to an accountant one year to see what he had to offer - by the time I got done talking to him, he said "Hey, you don't need me. Looks like you got a handle on it." This year she has an employee, and that complicated things just enough, and I got tired of doing it so I have passed it on to the accountant.

I was very happy with Turbo Tax, though I never tried anything else but a pencil.

I have used TaxCut for the last 5 years and couldn't be happier....I have heard good things about both TaxCut and TurboTax.

I itemize my taxes and I wouldn't prepare my taxes any other way.

We used Turbo Tax last year....my wife had to file in 3 states, I had to file in 2, I had a 1099 on top of a 1040, I itiemized, had student loans, and it knocked it all out with no problem.
