I hope they take Rey Maualuga, Middle Linebacker, USC.

The Chiefs defense has a lot of young talented players but they do not have an emotional leader on the field.

That would fall in line with some previous Chiefs drafts, as far as being stupid, however in case you hadn't noticed, we need a QBOTF. Until the Chiefs have a QB to build their team around and a new front office, head coach, and towel boys to do it, they will be in the cellar.

Do you feel either of those guys are in the same category with Matt Ryan ? Take into account that the Chiefs have never drafted a QB in the early rounds that has succeeded, and the fact that for every Manning & Ryan taken there are Leifs and Couch's, I'd prefer the Chiefs draft at a position that has more of a guarantee to succeed. One that can start from day one and be a force.

There are no guarantees in the draft.

you don't draft a player based on what they're going to do as a rookie. Besides, Malauga probably won't even be the best LB in this draft.

If we end up with the #1 overall, we better pick either QB or Pass rushing DE IMO. We can pick up a very good ILB in the second or probably even the third round this next year. With out a QB our offense has nothing to build around. Without the pass rush our Defense fails miserably. We can't get pressure on the QB so any QB with decent protection could pass all day long. Hence why we can't get our defense off the field on third downs. A decent ILB with another year for Glenn, and Tank will be able to control the run IMO.

and

WR or RB on very rare occasions

You guys wouldn't use the number one to pick Brian Urlacher if he was there?

Its all about slotting. No team is going to pay that much money to a MLB. Its not enough of an impact/core position.

Heck, alot of teams dont even want the #1 overall because they dont want to pay a guy that much money with such a high risk of failure.

That's why I'm not crazy about the Chiefs taking a QB with that high of a pick. I think it's more of a crap shoot than other positions.

I think everything starts with the offensive line. If we have the #1, I think we should take the best offensive lineman available, preferably another tackle. With the prospect of either an uncapped year or a new CBA, there's going to be a large volume of Juniors coming out next year. Many of the best QB's ni the country are going to be available in the 2nd round. It won't make a difference if we have a QB if we can't protect him.

Understood. But like i mentioned earlier, teams dont want to pay a MLB #1 overall kind of money. Slotting.

As you saw from the post above, its been 20 years since a #1 pick was a linebacker and that was a huge bust.
