Pioli personnel move predictions

Let's not let Herm have all the fun ... let's predict the players who we think are gone, too.

I'll start with ... Donnie Edwards. It was nice to have him back, but based on how Pioli does business, he's too old and has too many miles to keep the contract we gave him.

There are only a handful of attractive FA's this year. Very few.

Will pioli's arrival mean we switch to a 3-4 front defensively? I would be as curious about the schemes he wants to utilize since that will determine whether or not certain personnel will be successful for him.

I think that would have more to do with the new HC than the GM...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Gawddamnit,

Cut Mcintosh, Edwards and Surtain (and i had such high hopes for Surtain)
Add Huard to that list.

LJ won't get traded, no one wants him, and i read somewhere that we would take an 8.8 Mill cap hit, so i dont see that happening.

Gonzo stays, just because he always does.

We go out and sign some sort of combination that includes at least two of these three players: Suggs, Haynesworth, Vilma.

Draft Stafford or Sanchez in the 1st, an OLB or MLB in the second, depending on who we sign, and a RT/RG in the 3rd/4th, and add more defensive depth with the rest of the draft.

I don't honestly see Pioli going after a QB with the third pick. If he is anything like his father in law, he'll be building Defense first. So we may look either later in the draft for a QB or be looking at Thigpen for another year. That said O-line will defintely be addressed whether FA or later draft rounds. Top pick will be a pass rusher...hopefully Everette Brown if he continues to rise up the boards!!

I don't think so. Everyone says Brady was picked late, Cassle was picked late blah blah blah.

Brady/ A QB was taken late because they had Bledsoe, same for Cassel. Demetrioff took a QB in the first rnd, so NE Brass knows that QB is key.

Or get an extra pick and still get Brown.

Pioli knows the importance of QBs. He spent a third round pick on one last year when they already had Brady and Cassell. No way is pioli going into next season with a QB that can't run an offense from under center. If Sanchez or Stafford are still there he'd be crazy to pass them up. There's also no DE's worthy of a top 3 pick this year so i really doubt he'll go that direction.

Surtain has disappointed me as well. He was head and shoulders above Ty "Murphy's" Law (anything bad that can happen when he's defending a receiver can, and usually will), but not a shutdown guy by any means. I also don't think they'll go for a QB in the first round, unless he trades down to get extra picks, then grabs a guy in the bottom half of the first.

I think McIntosh will stay at least long enough to get a little more depth at OL.
I think Huard is gone. He got two out of the three years of his $7.5 mill contract (including $2.5 guaranteed), but now the Chiefs are in QBOTF mode, so I think he'll get cut.
I think Alfonso Boone is toast. Just hasn't shown enough on the interior line or at DE to keep him.
I think LJ will end up leaving in the same kind of 4th round pick deal that Moss went to the Patriots with.
