Hypothetical situation:

Back in the Reagen era there was already talk of a proposal for a Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) AKA Star Wars. This program has been continually advanced since then.

In short it is to shoot down nuclear missiles launched from opposing nations of the United States. Now suppose this 'defensive' type weapon is is already in orbit. Now it is programmed offensively to take out say the city of London, to show its advanced weapon superiority. Thus holding the world at ransom, a dictator who is unknown at such time, or city after city will be wiped out.

Give the control of the nations to leader X, and your nation will be spared, or what is left of it.

Let's use for example it was the equivalent of Germany having the atomic bomb and using it many years before the allies were even close to that stage of technology. Would the allies have given into such a powerful foe? After watching major cities, one by one literally blown up?

And the unknown source of such power were using this incredible power to take control of the nations, under one dictatorship. Do you think the world as a whole would give-in?
