Say that I feel more comfortable w/ a black minister, what is my best approach to coincide w/ his church?

I grew up Irish Catholic and have attended Baptist, Methodist,Pentecostal and non denotation. I was surprised that some of them spoke ill of other churches. There are bad people in all walks of life. I have however never heard of a church blocking a new member. That said FTR I am agnostic.

I'm also a member of the reality train, but wouldn't it fly in the face of what church is supposed to be all about if members weren't made to feel welcome because of skin color? Unfortunately this still is a part of our society and church going folks that I know are some of the most overtly racist people I've come across. Black or white.

Fair enough and if the church he desires to attend has the type of people you speak of, he would be wasting his time attending IMO.

My experience exactly. I grew up Catholic in a small town, and all of our churches supported each other, and had regular functions that the other supported. I was totally shocked when I came down there and heard one Baptist member totally dogging another Baptist church. I thought it was just an isolated case, until I was here for a while. Religion is much more of a business down here. The churches are very competitive for members. Say what you want about the Catholic church, but all the $$$ go back to the central organization, and then gets dolled back out to the individual parishes. This cuts a lot of that crap out.

The catholic religion is all about big business. They got to have a way to pay for all their castles and legal fees.

Honestly , I can see why you would ask this question. Any time you walk into a situation where you are not familiar with the customs or cultures , you might feel a little apprehensive about it...but trust me, I seriously don't think you will have a issue, you might get a few looks at first, but just kick back, enjoy yourself and you should fit right in.
