Dakota Fanning to be raped onscreen
This is disturbing. I hope people boycott this movie because there's no need for crap like this.
Dakota, 12, to star in 'disturbing paedophile film' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773 Child actress Dakota Fanning will appear in a controversial new movie featuring paedophile scenes. War of the Worlds star Dakota, 12, has signed up to appear in Hounddog. The screenplay calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments. A source close to the film said: "The two taboos in Hollywood are child abuse and the killing of animals. "In this movie, both things happen." Fanning's mother, Joy, and her Hollywood agent, Cindy Osbrink, see the movie, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier, as a possible Oscar vehicle for the pint-size star. But despite Fanning's status as a bankable actress - whose movies, including last year's War of the Worlds have earned more than half a billion dollars since 2001 - the alarming material seems to have scared off potential investors, according to the New York Daily News. The film charts the life of a girl who is abused and finds solace in the music of Elvis Presley. Fanning's carefully choreographed rape scene has already been filmed. But then the production - which also stars Robin Wright Penn, David Morse and Piper Laurie - was stopped because of a lack of money. But emergency investors were found and the movie is set to be finished by the end of the week. "It's not just the rape scene - the whole story is challenging Dakota as an actress," Fanning's agent, Osbrink, said. "And I've never been so proud of her in my life. In every scene she gets better and better." |

Not sure if you're aware of this, but Dakota Fanning was not raped in that movie. See, acting is like make believe. When they shot Marvin's face off in Pulp Fiction, it was just makeup and effects. Marvin didn't actually get his face shot off. It's a movie. It didn't really happen. I've got a degree in film, so I'm sure it may confuse you when you see something happen in the big TV box that it's not really happening, so you'll just have to take my word for it. I had to study the moving pictures for four years to really get a grasp on it myself. No harm, no foul. |

You gotta wonder who would say to themselves,"hmmmmm, let's go see the movie where the 12 year old gets raped".

Seriously? This has been hashed and rehashed... some of use don't view films as just some form of entertainment and enjoy things with greater depth than Transformers II and Showgirls. I like my mind to be challenged... more than that, I absolutely LOVE for my own ideals to be challenged. I watched The Woodsman a while ago and by the end of it had my own emotional roller coaster going on in my head, torn within my own mind at the fact that not only did I care about the pedophile character, but actually felt sympathy toward him. That'll mess with your mind when you think you should know how to feel and you end up feeling something different. I love it when a film can move me like that. There's nothing greater, in my opinion, than having anger or fear or regret or sympathy... or the entire human condition on display in a way that makes me truly feel for the characters on screen. I love movies that make me cry or genuinely make me angry or inspire me or myriad other things. It's good storytelling at its most basic, and it's the reason I wanted to make films. To say I wanted to see this film because it had a rape of a 12-year-old girl is ludicrous, insulting and completely uninformed. Three adjectives that seem to follow you around, Pioli Zombie. |

You don't have to have a degree in film to appreciate the message or label it a waste of time. Normally I can enjoy some of your posts, but this one was, IMO, a little off-base. BTW...Hounddog was on tonight....I found it neither interesting or inciteful. Quite frankly it was a was of celluloid. mmaddog ******* |

I didn't say that Hounddog was particularly interesting or insightful. I was hopeful, but in the end was let down. As I said in the post that resurrected this thread, it was OK. I didn't hate it. One of the major complaints about the movie (besides the rape scene) is that it's heavy-handed, and that complaint is very valid. What I find interesting about the level of vitriol over this movie is when I compare it to the reaction garnered over Irreversible, the French film starring Monica Bellucci. Many on here tout that as a wonderful film, myself included. But that movie contains an 11-minute rape scene that is the most graphic and disturbing scene I've ever seen captured on film. I wept when I saw that scene, and remains to be the only scene I can remember off hand that literally had me turning away. It physically sickened me. Yet that movie is lauded, and people post that scene in a pictures thread so people can see Bellucci's breasts. Certainly makes me question the hypocrisy of many on this board when I see people fawn over Bellucci's breasts in one post and decry Hounddog without having even seen it in another. |
