Chiefs Mock (1/28/11)

Several things.

1. Bowe, Hali, Flowers... all get resigned.
2. Wiegmann can hold the fort at C another year.
3. Shaun Smith deserves a year at NT before we invest a high pick there.
4. I speculated as to our draft pick trades.

Here we go:

1. OLB Ryan Kerrigan, Purdue -- Extremely good motor, very strong guy.

2. WR Leonard Hankerson, Miami -- Pretty fast player, long arms and velcro hands.

3. WR/KR Randall Cobb, Kentucky -- A bigger version of Dexter McCluster, but he is more of a slot receiver, whereas McCluster is best running the ball.

4. NT Ian Williams, Notre Dame -- Pioli and Crennel don't need belt-busters, they just want extremely hard workers at the nose position.

5. RB Jamie Harper, Clemson -- Fairly versatile big back, with decent speed.

5 (Magee + 6th). OT Darius Morris, Temple -- Pure right tackle material with a ton of upside.

6 (Page). S Chris Culliver, South Carolina -- My guess is that Pioli wants a lot more pure speed at free safety.

7. QB Mitch Mustain, USC -- Career backup at USC with good intangibles? Sounds familiar....

The Panthers are a rebuilding team, basically starting from scratch with needs everywhere (including QB). Jerry Richardson let Julius Peppers walk and his underpaying his head coach. I don't think they'll overpay to keep their center.

That said, I'd just as happy with Kris O'Dowd.
I doubt there will be much free agent speculation as long as there is no CBA in place.

I would be happy with O'Dowd as well, though he does have some durability issues that worry me.

I don't know if he's regarded in the same exact company as Mangold....but he's definitely one of the better Centers in the league....plus he's young.

Thanks.

I was definitely bummed the Chiefs didn't take him in 2007 but I hadn't realized that he was regarded as one of the better centers in the league.

Well....he is in my mind. Everything I've read about him is good though.

I believe Kalil was a Pro Bowl alternate, and like many good players on bad teams, doesn't get the recognition he deserves.

The guy has the mobility and athletic ability to get out and pull andget into the second level.

He also uses his hands really well to gain and maintain leverage against the interior D-Lineman he faces, both in the ground game, where he consistently rides his assigment out of plays, and in pass pro, where he keeps the pocket clean in front.

He has great balance.

You never see him on the ground.

In my mind, he's top 5 center.

I'm surprised more people don't talk about Mark Herzlich.

So you think Waters gets shipped out?

Waters has been steadily declining in the last three seasons, and made the Pro Bowl on reputation alone.

It's time this team moved on.

He doesn't have to get shipped out....but he should be taking a backseat at this point in his career.

While I completely agree, that will be all the more difficult considering he just made the Pro Bowl.

Mabye, but no way after making the Pro Bowl does a guy decide it's time to be a backup. He starts somewhere on the line or he starts for another team. He might be good trade bait though for a contender.

Yanda is definitely a better OG than RT. That said, being from Iowa, he might just enjoy being closer to home.
