Would it be a mistake to fire Todd Haley?

I started the year in full support of Haley. This team was developing into one of the better teams in football and were young across the board...despite being handcuffed to Matt Cassel. The growth in almost all of our young talent was apparent and easily recognizable.

His fiery attitude is infectious and the team plays with that emotion and passion. Haleys motivational skills are up there with about anyones.

For that, I was willing to overlook his mismanagement of situational football and a few other deficiencies that come with a first time coach and assumed that he would improve in those areas, with experience.

This is one hell of a hard season to judge because of the lack of an offseason. I am willing to give him a partial pass on the early part of the schedule because I still believe it was the right plan if we are looking at the long term big picture. It just sucks that we coincidentally ran into the injury bug at crucial positions early on.

All that said, his offense is embarrassing to watch while Romeos defense is seemingly entering GOD mode without, arguably, its best player. Everyone on earth (sans Haley, seemingly) can see that Palko has no place in the NFL and Haley is seemingly OK with betting half the year on him. I dont understand what Haley sees from a quarterback that has the weakest arm Ive ever seen in the NFL.

I still think that Haley deserves a shot at it with a real quarterback. This team is giving good effort and I think most agree it would be a contender with a real quarterback. Who could have this team in position to contend with these quarterbacks (Im not even gonna touch the Stanzi situation)?

I guess the way we deal with the remaining 4 games plays a lot into this, but at this point I think it would be a mistake to fire Haley either during or after this year, but I can see why someone would disagree with that opinion and thats why I want to see how a poll on this topic shakes out.

Do YOU think it would be a mistake to fire Todd Haley and replace him prior to next year?

I prefer to base my opinions on fact, not rumor. You should try it sometime.

There would be no other reason to keep a coach who doesn't get along with his GM.

Yeah Florio and Lombardi just make things up.

Bullshit you prefer to listen to what you want to hear.

Florio makes a living off what the local media in the NFL cities say(THEN puts it on profootballtalk.com).So i dont know why u have so much faith in him.

I agree. Address the quarterback position.

I know what I see. I don't take unfounded and unconfirmed rumors and base opinions on them. I don't trust media people trying to generate listeners by using unnamed sources.

When someone known is willing to step forward and say he has witnessed these things, so that we can judge the credibility of what is said, then I will listen. But just blindly following whatever the haters on CP make up is not going to work for me. You have no credible source that is in a position to know.

The truth is that none of us know these things.

If you keep Haley for 2012, you need to keep him until 2014. There is no point to bringing him back for 1 year.

If you bring him back for 2012, he isn't going to play a rookie QB (presuming KC takes one in round 1 or 2). He isn't going into his final contractual year taking the lumps of developing someone. Plus, who wants to develop a QB with coach X only to have a new head coach come in year two and bring his own scheme? If you draft a young QB you need some consistency with the staff and his development.

Do people really want to give Haley 3 more years?

Actually, more people think that he is staying than going.

I am really torn on whether he should be here.

The team hasn't given up, which is huge. However, he has lost four ballgames by more than four TD's. He set the franchise record low for number of TD's in a month. (1 in the entire month of November)

Rumors swirl that he has a hard time working with Pioli. One could blame Pioli.

Then, you look at the fact that he fired Gailey during the offseason in his first year. Okay, fine, it is because he has a difference of philosophy.

Then, you look at the fact that Weis and he were rumored to have a difficult relationship. And, it was reported that Haley took over the playcalling duty. Then, Weis leaves, pointing to family reasons. (only, one year later, he is back in the same area and those reasons haven't changed.)

Many on this board feel like he doesn't work well with Cassel. Cassel is a hard worker. McDaniels (the OC that worked with him in New England), coveted him and wanted him in Denver. Despite whether he is any good, this at least speaks to the fact that Cassel is not hard to work with.

Any of these can be excused away. However, as a whole.... it paints the picture that Haley is an insecure, petulant, micro manager who isn't well adjusted enough to run an NFL team.

I think that he should be fired just because he can't get plays in to the QB on time and he can't seem to get along with the people he needs to.

Lombardi made up the story about how Haley yelling at Cassel was an embarrassment for Pioli. Any quotes from Pioli in that story. Any basis in reality for that story which turned Cassel from having a historically bad season to 4 wins in a row?

The butthurt will be from the vocal minority that want him gone. Haley has said one time in public his problem with Cassel, that too often when confronted with a problem he will revert to old bad habits. Haley isn't like Herm that throws his players and coaches under the bus in public. If I was Haley, I would lose patience with Cassel as well. It will be ironic if he is fired, is that the main reason for it will be that he was tied at the hip to said QB.

You look at Haley's defense of Palko and then try to blame Pioli. Give me a freaking break. Palko is clearly Haley's project.
