If this happens, your opinion of Pioli would be...

OK let's say Pioli is NOT convinced that Cassel is the only QB for us but can't work out a trade UP for RGIII or Luck. He looks at the free agents and decides they are stop gaps at best. SO...

He either trades way DOWN in the first round and picks a QB (slight reach) or he takes a QB in the second round.

Would that significantly change your opinion of Pioli?

My preference is a trade down in the first this year in exchange for a first next year with the expectation of then being able to package the 2 firsts next year to move up and get a real QB. Given this, taking a QB in the late first, early second would be a waste, IMO.

No, drafting someone who is largely regarding as second-tier talent would not appease me. I want elite, top-of-the-draft talent at the QB position. If Pioli is not able to draft Luck or Griffin this year, then I want him to load up on future picks for the 2013 draft.

For me, the worst thing about Cassel is that he is an impediment to getting an elite talent at QB. He is good enough to win the weak AFCW, yet bad enough to never win a playoff game. Cassel is the guy that keeps us from drafting "The Guy." Second-tier, marginally better than Cassel won't do it for me at this point; I want the franchise to find a Hall of Fame quarterback.

I don't have the chart but I have a hard time seeing trading from the #11 spot to somewhere still in the first AND getting a 1st in exchange next year. No way.

I wouldn't be opposed to someone like Osweiler, but I don't know if he'll be a second rounder, more like 3rd. He's got the size, obviously, that Pioli looks for and, by all accounts, he's got everything else a franchise QB needs. He just needs some good coaching to put it all together.

We've got 2 QBs on the roster for 2012, so something is going to have to happen in FA or the draft.

Remember that Andy Dalton wasn't really that highly regarded coming into the draft last year, and he played quite well for the Bengals. Meanwhile, Gabbert has done nothing but suck balls in Jacksonville.

It's only been one year, but it's looking like Dalton has a much better chance to become a "franchise" quarterback than Gabbert does.

Daltons season is overrated.

Seems like when you read about Osweiler, the report always rips his side arm delivery. Honestly when you're 6'8, does that matter? Check out video of him. The ball is released around the height of his helmet. Okay so his release point is more that of someone who is say 6'4 with an over the top delivery. Big deal. He can still see the field like a lighthouse.

Based on what I think Scott Pioli looks for in a QB, I wouldn't be shocked if he took a shot on Osweiler.

Personally, I don't care how someone looks when they release the ball if the ball comes out with velocity and accuracy. Look how Rivers looks when he throws it. Looks pretty ****ing awkward, but he's always raking up the yards no matter who's catching the ball.

One year is not enough to convince me one way or another. For me, Dalton only enters the conversation if he consistently plays well enough to get mention as one of the top five.

Fine, drop to the top end of the 2nd. The point is that we are not getting one of the elite QBs this year so we need to do what we can to put ourselves in position to do so next year and not just settle for whoever is left this year. That is not much, if any, better than trying to work with FA scrubs from other teams.

My opinion of Osweiler is based solely on youtube clips, but IMO, the kid sucks. I can't fathom why anyone would spend a 4th round pick or earlier on the kid. First, why the hell did he declare? Second & Third - on youtube you can find every throw and run the kid made against USC and Boise. It's ugly. Not much pocket presence. Bad throws. The vast, vast majority of throws are screens and dump offs. I have no idea what people see in him.

Probably easier than trying to get to the #2 pick this year.
