![]() My point still stands. I do not want to see us take a second tier QB this year, I want to see this draft used to stockpile whatever is needed to get someone at the top next season. And no, I am not one to root for losses to improve drafting position. |

If there is no way to make a deal to move up for RGIII, and the Chiefs realistically won't be able to win the bidding war, I would be fine with a trade down...ONLY IF...in addition to a second tier QB draft pick Pioli also brings in a legitimate free agent (Orton or someone of that caliber) to compete for the starting job.

It would change my opinion if he at least tried to address the QB situation. Luck might be impossible to trade for and it might be very hard to outbid Cleveland for RGIII. I just want him to at least make a reasonable attempt, not a half hearted one, a reasonable one. If that fails then trade far enough back to still get a good QB without reaching. If he waits till round 3 or later then I don't think he is serious about addressing the QB situation. He could also trade our first this year for someone's first next year considering where we are picking this year. There is no one that we can get at that position that we really need. It would allow us to give it to someone who could use it this year and we could address RT in round 2. Then next year with two #1 picks, we could use that to trade up high enough to get Barkley or someone like that.

It would get me exited again & little hope, but if Cassel is still the starter then may it rain brimstone and fire aids tree on his head.

My preference would be to bring in a legitimate NFL QB free agent and trade down and address other needs. But the question was regarding the selection of a QB in the 2nd or middle rounds.
We can start with four QBs at training camp. Then after a fair and open competition, cut Cassell and/or send one of the QB prospects to the practice squad (or home).

Then the sending one of the QBs to the practice squad, I think you lose one then. Because you're talking either Stanzi or some 2nd to mid round draft guy. That looks bad. Basically we can't carry 4 QBs. |

You would draft a 2nd round QB and watch with baited breath for the competition between Cassell, Stanzi and 2nd Round Reach?

Stanzi was a 5th round pick and couldn't move ahead of Tyler Palko on the depth chart. Not sure how moving him to practice squad 'looks bad'.

We aren't going to have 4 QBs. I would agree to drafting a QB in the middle somewhere and having a QB depth chart of Cassel and Stanzi/??? filling in the rest. Cassel is going to be here, regardless of how anyone on a forum feels. There aren't any QBs in FA that make you excited, unless you think Brees is going to somehow leave NO. |
