Sounds like a good guy. That being said, I want no part of KC drafting him

He fits better than just about any other pick we can make.
I'd say he, Barron, and Kuechly make the most sense. |

We still need one. Dorsey shouldn't be back. He is an adequate player, but he will leave for greener ($$$$) pastures next year. We can use this year to focus on developing a raw prospect with ridiculous upside to replace him.

Allen Bailey is a adequate replacement. 3-4 DE isn't that important of a position to burn 3 high first rounders in 5 years on.

In fairness, Dorsey wasn't really a 5-tech we burned a first rounder on. He was supposed to be an undertackle in a 4-3. You can't operate with just two or three five techs, either. Rotating them is a force multiplier.

You're absolutely right about 3-4 DE not being important. Oh wait, every succesfully run 3-4 has a stud DE. Texans, Ravens, Pitt, NE(with Seymour/Warren), especially in the 2-gap. You absolutely need to be able to get pressure from your ends in a 3-4 and be able to hold up blockers against the run to be elite running the 3-4. Its importance is even more so in our system.

Pioli knows Dorsey is likely gone and he wants leverage over TJax and his $14 million salary in 2013. Unless TJax cuts his salary in half for 2013, we are not going to have a good 5 technique DE except Bailey.
Pioli warned he was drafting for a need not this year necessarily ... but after Dorsey and TJax are gone, I believe. Parcells covers for Pioli by labeling Brockers as the best. Brockers is the only real first round talent to get an interview with Pioli. Poe and Tannehill don't count in my view. 16 teams interviewed Brockers. Most everyone thinks the Eagles will take him at 15, so Pioli is apt to take him at #11 or trade down no further than 14. I hope I am wrong, but I understand the pick. |

I hope we take him. If we can get someone as adequate as Dorsey immediately + upside and better pass rush as a 3-4 DE, then we should be lucky to take him. The only other good 3-4 DEs in this draft are Cox (position change like Dorsey), Reyes (not bad, would rather have Brockers though), Winn-BSU, Crick-NE imo. I suppose you could fit Bones' brother in here as he hasn't produced sacks and is good at stopping the run, but Chandler doesn't really seem to have as much upside.

Jackson
Dorsey Bailey Gordon The only reason we would let Dorsey or Jackson leave is because their contract is too high for their production/impact. Drafting a raw project at 11 at a position we already have a log jam at isn't quite the best usage of "currency" In fact, I'm not sure he is that much better than Bailey. That said, I think he is probably the pick. |
