Chiefs Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps - Page 10

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

I think for a lot of people this (Quinn getting a chance) would officially signal the end of Cassel. That is why there is the overreaction and excitement for the possibilty of Quinn.

It is not because of who Quinn is, it is because of who he isn't.

My prediciotion -

Cassel gets benched in the next few weeks, Quinn tears it up or at least plays decent, we go on a winning streak and take the division lead.

Then Quinn gets hurt.

Me too. But having the other reerun bust come in midseason does nothing to help us.

If Quinn is starting we are far closer to a top 3 draft pick than any playoff appearances. That could be considered good or bad news depending on your view of the organization.

Sounds like people reaching for a moral victory. Like I said, Quinn is one of the top 5 biggest busts the past couple decades, I'm not going to get excited about him starting even if it means Cassel's benched.

If I was drowning, I wouldn't be excited about being set on fire.

I don't give a shit if he can throw it 100 yards, it does us no good when he consistantly throws it to the other team.

Possibly. There aren't a lot of mid season QB changes that help teams. Especially when switching to a bust QB.

Doesn't matter. The ND offense averaged 16 points per game during those losses. It's not like they were doing anything special either.
