Chiefs Brady Quinn getting half the first team reps - Page 12

I am surprised this hasn't been posted yet, but according to the radio on 610 this morning, (Bill Maas and Fescoe) Quinn has been getting about 50% of the first team reps in practice this week.

In the short term this is certainly a good thing because Quinn certainly can't be worse than what Cassel has been so far. But I wonder, what if he starts and does decent? Decent enough to warrant not drafting a first round QB next year. I really want the team to win but I want it to be like last week against the Saints every week where we win in spite of the QB, not because of him or with him really contributing. If Quinn does decent will that preclude them from going hard after a QB next season? (If they ever were going to at all).

Fescoe asks him how RAC feels about Cassel and so they talk about it. At around 15:10 when they talk about it Maas say, "They are keeping their options open...," then he goes on to elaborate around 15:45,

We have all the talent in the world to make a deep playoff run, but we're completely handcuffed by our QB situation. Cassel is the lesser of 3 evils, unfortunately.

This team needs to draft a real QB coming out of college...a top tier prospect. Not some "ok" QB prospect that can be drafted in the 5th rd.

I still think Quinn would be better than Cassel.

No one thinks he's the solution.

Like myself, we're sick of watching Matt overthrow everyone.

What do we risk by letting Quinn play?

This.

One QB had no college starts and then was thrown into the fire.

Another qb excelled in college, was drafted, thrown into the fire, and wobbled.

I'll take my chances with guy 2 (whom also happens to have a legit NFL arm.)

The jury's still out on Quinn, but he hasn't shown anything to steal away the starting job.
He CAN do worse. We've seen worse in Kansas City.

really you think? He is I think the only starting QB in the NFL that has never "earned" a starting QB job legitimately. His entire NFL career he was gifted a starting role, and then given the keys to a franchise based on one season. He had do absolutely nothing in college to justify being given a chance to lead a franchise and he literally sat for 4 or 5 years in the NFL and did nothing.

No other QB was gifted a team. Every other QB has had success at the College level, has shown success on other NFL teams, etc. Cassel was gifted everything. A good Patriots team, an entire Chiefs franchise for 3 years, 60 million dollar contract etc. You can make a sound argument that with his resume he deserved none of those.

I'm not sure he IS a good teammate. But he is a SPOILED teammate.

and before you say Tom Brady, there was still controversy between playing Drew Bledsoe over Tom Brady coming off injury. So Tom Brady had to not only earn that starting job when he stepped in, he had to run Beldsoe out of town in the process. He did that. He also had success at Michigan. Cassel never had anything at USC. And he was gifted a starting NFL QB job because our idiot GM was dumb enough to make that trade. Gifted. Not earned.
