Movies and TV Surround Sound Help! - Page 2

I bought a new tv, I have my surround sound hooked up. My surround sound works when I play a dvd through it. My TV and Xbox when hooked up the sound doesn't work. My tv shows the home theater is hooked up because when I use the tv remote it says home theater volume instead of my TV volume. I have my tv's digital audio output hooked into my receivers digital audio input. What can I do? Does this even make sense?

It is generally in your best interests to avoid routing connections to the TV and then back from the TV into another component, as it can cause additional issues with digital handshakes. It won't absolutely cause a problem, but it further complicates the matter.

If you want to check your TV's Netflix, hook the RCA cables up from your TV's output to the Receiver's Aux (TV). If that works you know you're outputting analog sound ok, so it's a fallback if you need it.

You'll also need to make sure that your 360's digital output is properly configured.

Page 12 of your manual should help. I'm going to go to the driving range; I'll check back in later.

it doesn't work that way for some reason. I also can't bring up a menu for my receiver there should be one right?

ya in the xbox menu I found where it says Dolby Digital, so that should be fine.

I hate to ask a silly question but you are changing sources on your receiver when attempting to listen to the xbox plugged into optical input 2?

except you'll have component video going into the tv and the optical audio to your receiver.

Have you tried multiple optical cables?

S/PDIF (TOSLINK) port on the cable or adapter.

and it doesnt matter anyway I connect with the optical cable none of it works unless I hook up the white/red and switch my receiver to aux. Netflix through my tv will work if I use this converter http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9SIA0U00D18035
but then netflix won't work with the titles that say 5.1 surround, it will make a funny noise. It does work however if the title on netflix doesnt say 5.1

It sounds to me like you need to configure your digital inputs.

Hook up the optical input from the back of the XBox to your receiver's Optical 2 (STB) input, then press [EXT-IN] until you see D-IN 2.

Time to isolate the variables. Hook up your TV's digital audio output to where your XBox was hooked up.

If it works, then it's something related to your XBox and/or its setup. If not, then it's almost certainly something with your receiver and/or the cable you are using.

Ok, I have the optical cable from the output of the tv into the D-IN 1. No sound comes out at all. However, when I use the volume with the TV remote it changes the volume of my receiver so that means that its hooked up right. Is there a netflix menu or something?

I have hooked the TV up with optical cable to my surround sound system cannot get sound when using Netflix. When using Netflix can only get sound with TV speakers. I want to get the sound to come out of my Surround Sound.

This question is asked on the panasonic support website. Here is the answer that Panasonic gives.

You will need to get a Dolby Digital decoder for your Home Theater System if it does not already have one.

Could this be the problem?
