You can tell by Stewart's visceral reaction (arms folded tight, restless body posture) how much that affects him to this day. Great video.

As soon as the girl said that she had went through the same thing, his body language showed that he went into defense and closed himself off. It's probably a lingering reaction to what he had to do when his mother was abused, he just had to close himself to what was happening.
