Kids never cease to amaze me.
Today my wife happened to open the 8 year old daughters drawer and the 8yo snatched a sheet of notebook paper out really quick. The wife made her give her the paper and it turns out to be an "I like you" sort of letter to a boy she's attracted to in her classroom.
She said she didn't want to tell us because she thought that we'd be mad. So I asked her why does she likes him. Out of all the possible BS answers... She comes up with, "He's talented". "He can draw". Now I have a thing about people lying even if it's the kids. No matter what it is I want to know the truth (no matter how weird) in order to get to the bottom of things and in order to give sound advice. Having said that, I look at her and say, "Don't lie to me". She finally fesses and says, "he's cute (blush)". Lucky for me, the guy isn't interested in her (don't want to have to worry about "the school kiss, etc"). (And no she's not bad looking or fat/ Not that it matters). Now I have 2 questions for you experienced goons out there with daughters. What age are they supposed to take interest in boys? I had a gf in kindergarten so I take it a 3rd grader isn't out of the norm. The most important question I have is... is it time to have the talk? If her mind isn't there I don't want to put it in her head. But if her mind is there (later on down the road) I don't want to have to find out about it after the fact. The dreaded day has finally arrived. |
