It's time for change
So the 2015 season is over in October. Who would have believed that if said a month ago after the Texans game?... It's truly sad. Now it is beginning to feel like 2012 all over again. We're the team with all the 'paper talent' in the world and nothing to show for it. I see opportunity for positive change to come of this however, and now it's about making it happen. My takes...
1. The Jamaal Charles thing really eats at my heart. He's been my favorite Chief to watch, ever, and I strongly believe he's the best pure runner with the ball in his hands of the last 5-6 years and should end up as one of the greatest ever, with two injury riddled seasons standing in his way from being assured such a title. But the big picture? A team in today's NFL shouldn't be built around a damned running back! It's the most beat on position in the league. You cannot hope to truly get anywhere when everything revolves around a 199 pound tailback who gets hit 30 times a game. Which brings me to... 2. The QB position. Enough is enough. Even the damn Raiders appear to have somewhat of a future with their 2nd round pick from 2014. It's time. And if we end up in position to take one early (which our schedule almost guarantees), it had better fucking happen. It's a solid QB class. I personally like Connor Cook the best, as he has proven to be able to stand firm in the pocket and take hits and is the best QB in the country against the blitz statistically. There's other good options outside of him as well. Regardless, no more. It's been over 20 years. Take a damn quarterback who is tough and has potential. 3. Time to move on from the old regime(s). Fire the staff (other than maybe Gibbs and Toub) We need a gritty coach who is smart enough to play to tendencies and gets the most out of his players. There's just no reason to be this bad with the current roster. 4. Let the beloved veterans walk in the offseason. Hali and DJ will go in the ring of honor one day, and will forever be admired. But it's time to cut the ties. Use the money to keep Sean Smith or perhaps address several other areas. We're gonna have plenty of money and we need to spend it on guys like Jaye Howard, Eric Berry, and other veterans that can help us right the ship with a new staff. I do hope to see Jamaal back next year though, I just don't wanna think about him in another uniform. 5. If these necessary changes are made we can really get this thing rolling by next year perhaps. We will still have plently of talent even if we were to let some of our older guys go. But we've been the home to elite RBs for too long without even competent QB play. It's time for a change. Now we can only hope those with the power will make it happen. |
