Something I haven't heard mentioned yet is the anti-backfire valve on the bottom of the carburetor; it's a spring loaded electromagnet which pulls a plunger down to allow fuel to be brought into the jet of the carburetor. If this is defective or has a bad ground, it could be only partially retracting which would allow some fuel into the main jet however under load, it would starve for fuel. Many times, you can simply replace this with a bolt to hold the carburetor bowl in place. It is energized while the engine ignition is ON.
