Word of Warning when Selling "Smart" Devices
While visiting my niece on her campus a few weeks ago I ran into who I'm guessing was a stoner named "Dug" looking for an easy $50 selling a Toshiba Roku TV that his parents must have bought for him.
Worth a little over $300 brand new. Forget all about because I stacked some drywall in front of it. Well today I plugged it into the intraweb and low and behold the TV he sold me still holds every bit of information and account access (Fire TV, Disney +, Prime Video, You Tube Plus, Netflix, Max etc). Hell I could even buy stuff off whosever credit card is on the Amazon account. Not that stupid but I could pull it off just because of his lack of foresight. So, when selling a "smart" device make sure you wipe it or smash the thing with a hammer. It's scary to think everything has your ID today if you allow. You can buy a $400 smart toaster off of Amazon at this moment. https://www.amazon.com/Revolution-R2...8367402&sr=8-3 Think I'll watch a couple Sopranos episodes and do the lad a favor and wipe his Roku for him. BTW, Rolu sucks even with top notch wireless. Once you get it going it's not bad but navigating through the menus is like running Baulder's Gate on a Pentium 1 with 7gb of RAM. Hope Dug enjoyed the ganja. |
