Pats Suspend Glenn For Season
Terry Glenn just cost himself 11.5 million dollars by being a crybaby and skipping practice for the last two weeks due to "lack of support" from his team.
What a loser. To think I wanted KC to trade for this guy. Thank goodness I was wrong. The decision apparently has been made for him. The Boston Globe is reporting in its Wednesday's editions that the Patriots have suspended the troubled wide receiver for the entire season. According to the newspaper, the Patriots informed Glenn's agent, Jim Gould, on Tuesday night that they were suspending his client without pay and placing him on the reserve list. The Patriots also will take away Glenn's $11.5 million signing bonus, the Globe reported. If that is the case, Glenn must sit out the season and cannot be traded or released. "They told us to stay home and that coach (Bill Belichick) will talk to Terry after the season is over," Gould told the newspaper. "Terry is devastated." The Patriots' move came after Glenn decided to end his holdout and rejoin the team at training camp, the Globe reported. Glenn bolted from training camp unexpectedly on Aug. 5 and the club threatened to suspend him for the season. It has been a tumultuous month for Glenn, who was suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season for violating the league's substance abuse policy. Glenn also had off-the-field problems during the offseason and originally was excused from camp to attend to personal problems. In May, he was charged with assault and battery following a dispute with the mother of his 5-year-old son. The woman recanted the chrarges, but prosecutors are pursuing the case. Glenn, 27, signed a six-year, $50 million contract extension last year, including the $11.5 million signing bonus. In June, the club witheld a $1 million payment on the bonus until he worked out personal problems. Last season, Glenn caught 79 passes for 963 yards and six touchdowns while playing all 16 games for the first time in his career. A 1996 first-round pick, Glenn has 315 career receptions for 4,465 yards and 21 TDs in 64 games with the Patriots. He set an NFL rookie record with 90 receptions but has missed 16 games in his career due to a broken ankle, pulled hamstring and team suspension.[/QUOTE] |
