Eileen Weir to play a larger role in 2007 on kcchiefs.com

KCCHIEFS.com Coverage Ramps Up in 2007
Jul 25, 2007, 5:00:25 AM

What the transcontinental railroad meant to communication then the invention of the Internet means to communications now. No device has had a greater effect on how people communicate with one another and how they now receive information. It has truly transformed and redirected culture.

At first glance, the Web site you are viewing right now would appear to have changed very little as far as its appearance. But as a new season of NFL football begins, you will notice new features and new ways to find and consume the latest information on your Kansas City Chiefs. These additions and alterations to what was already the fifth most visited site in the National Football League continue our commitment to delivering the most authoritative, accurate and up-to-the-minute reporting on the team.

The Chiefs’ Web site is the place to go for what’s happening now and includes analysis from our columnists, context, and perspective designed for people who want news about the team at any time, and authoritative and accurate information.

Columnists weigh in daily
No Web site in the NFL family of 32 sites has as many columnists as does kccchiefs.com. Bob Gretz serves as our longest running columnist since the site first premiered back in August of 1995. A former beat reporter in Pittsburgh during the Steelers glory days, and later in Kansas City, he is also KC’s representative to the Pro Football Hall of Fame and his in-depth investigation of Chiefs stories making news today often better define what you will find in the mainstream media.

Jon Rand is another former beat reporter, newspaper columnist and author and has a deep understanding of the NFL and its teams.

Eileen Weir, who once worked for the team in its public relations office, examines issues that surround the game and the people who play it and watch it.

Rufus Dawes responds to the growing volume of mail the site receives and muses on the media coverage the team receives all year. Two of these columnists made their bones in the world of conventional journalism and help to reinforce the credibility you expect to find in mainstream media.

Keep an eye out for celebrity columnists who will appear from time to time to offer their insights on the game and on the Chiefs.

Finally, those of you who don’t want to bother with clicking on the site can get a weekly summary of Web stories via the Pulse which is emailed directly to your computer in-season.

Expanding Video & Audio
As Internet video and audio continue to evolve and improve you will see much more of it here over the coming year. In addition to a new LIVE audio and podcast The Red Zone available every Monday hosted by Soren Petro, you will find special video features throughout the year including Cribs brought to you by Farmland, which takes you into a player’s home to see how he lives when he’s away from the field, Nights at the Roundtable, brought to you by Miller Brewing Company, where a panel of reporters hosted by Mitch Holthus, Voice of the Chiefs, discuss football and the team, Behind the Playbook, where Holthus talks to the team’s assistant coaches, and for those cheerleader enthusiasts, Cheerleader Chatter.

As in the past, the site will feature a weekly rookie diary and other special video features will pop up from time to time during the year hosted by our own Patrick Herb.

And, of course, audio, video and print transcriptions of the head coach’s daily sessions with the media will continue to take you up close to hear and see what Herm Edwards said almost at the moment he said it. All this starts at training camp where our expanded video team will also give you a daily Camping with the Chiefs, a summary of news that day, as well as coach and player interviews.

In-depth game coverage
Every week the site’s Brad Kuhbander will unearth an interesting stat of the week to give fans something to digest and late Mondays and early Tuesdays you will know as much as you need to about the coming opponent and receive tips on what to look for come Sunday courtesy of Pete Moris. This Week in Chiefs Football highlights some great moment in team history that took place that week.

Everything culminates weekly in the site’s game coverage where you’ll know this week’s inactive players, injury updates, where you’ll receive player post-game quotes, a play-by-play and notable stats, and for those fans who can’t watch or listen to home games from Arrowhead, Josh Looney’s glog (short for game log) is scheduled to be run as a test this season. It will bring the bleacher-seat experience to you at home following the on-the-field action and how it effects the game at the time it happens. At the game’s conclusion, the post-game head coach’s press conference will let you know how the coach saw it win or lose. Capping off the day you’ll receive notable notes from the outcome.

Your faith remains strong
In this age of rapid technological change and with so many sites offering information and commentary we understand you have many places to go to find information on the Chiefs. Yet, in the midst of so much change and so many options, the faith of our readers remains strong and continues to grow. We thank you. Enjoy the year.
