Tell us all about it - we'll commiserate with you - and then compare your horror story against TripAdvisor's second-annual Top 10 dirtiest hotels list. TripAdvisor compiled the list on the cleanliness rankings submitted by disgruntled travelers. USA TODAY's Laura Bly - who bravely stayed at the 2009 top-ranked "dirtiest hotel" - provides us with the 2010 list. But, first, top honors goes to... San Francisco's Heritage Marina Hotel - a 15-minute walk from Fisherman's Wharf - earns top honors for 2010 due to urine-scented mattresses, stairwells, bedbugs, vomit-crusted carpets and hookers in the hallway. It won negative marks from 80% of TripAdvisor reviewers, Bly writes. "If you are filming a horror flick or a slasher movie, this is the place for you," one TripAdvisor reviewer wrote. The other nine: Days Inn Eureka/Six Flags, Eureka, Mo. Tropicana Resort Hotel and Super 8 Virginia Beach/At the Ocean, Virginia Beach; Quality Inn, Stroudsburg, Pa.; New York Inn, New York (down from No. 3 last year); Parisian Hotel & Suites, Miami Beach; Capistrano Seaside Inn, Capistrano Beach, Calif.; Desert Lodge, Palm Springs, Calif., and Continental Oceanfront Hotel South Beach, Miami Beach A few patterns that stand out: The top 10 list contains mostly independent hotels Four of the 10 are located in beach areas Miami Beach takes top honors as the city with the most (2) hotels on the list California takes smudged crown as state with the most (2) hotels on the list, and Wyndham (Days Inn) and Choice Hotels (Quality Inn) are two national chains on the list |
