Q: Which team's playoff chances were hurt the most in Week 1? My inclination is to say the Kansas City Chiefs, since they lost a game at home they should've won and lost Eric Berry for the year.
-- Greg (Miss.) A: That's if you viewed the Chiefs as a legitimate playoff contender coming into this season, Greg. But the vibes on them all summer have not been good. They've had injuries, turmoil, coaching changes -- it's a tough situation there. But the loss to Buffalo at home, in which the Chiefs were beaten in all areas, had to be a major red flag. Other teams also had to be alarmed with what they showed in Week 1: Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, the New York Giants and the St. Louis Rams. Three of those four teams have significant injuries to overcome, and that never is an easy thing to do. The Steelers are trying to overcome the curse of losing the Super Bowl, when teams always seem to struggle the season after losing in the big game. But let's also not go too overboard on any team after Week 1 -- it's only one game for everybody. We got some signs about what could be ahead, but it's a long season and a lot still will change. |
