I breastfed our almost 3 year old to nineteen months and only weaned because of my high risk pregnancy with her little sister. I am now nursing our ten month old, and will until she is ready to wean even if that means we are approaching her third birthday.
A comparison cannot be made between bottle feeding and breastfeeding. Formula is manufactured in factories and does not change as a child grows, so it is no longer compatible with a toddler's system. Breastmilk changes with a child making it the perfect food for that child from newborn through toddlerhood. A bottle's nipples are bad for a child's teeth. Natural nipples do not impede dental development. Would I pose for a magazine? No. But you better believe I have and will continue to nurse in public any time my child needs milk. |
