Home Improvement guys - Motion sensing lights or no?

Here's my dilemma:

My back porch light bit the dust. Not the light bulb, but the light itself. It is a motion sensing light put in by the previous owner, but it never worked well at all. Even with the sensitivity at the highest setting, it never detected motion unless I stood in front of it for a minute waving my hands trying to get it to turn on.

Should I just replace it with a regular old switch light? Seems like it's less hassle. I'm not really worried about intruders at the back door, whether that's wise or not. I don't think a motion sensing light is going to deter anyone that wouldn't be deterred by my alarm system and alarm system stickers, anyway.

Thoughts? Should I get another motion sensing light? A better brand perhaps?

I got rid of mine; am happier for having a standard model.

I don't really need it for security purposes - I have large dogs, guns and live in a good neighborhood. So at that point, all it did was serve to be an annoyance when I flipped the light switch and wanted the damn things to turn on.

About 1/3 the time they did, 1/3 the time they delayed for 5 minutes and 1/3 the time they didn't come on at all.

Now when I flip the light switch, the lights turn on and I'm happy.

I used to have a motion sensor light for my front porch. It died and I replaced it with a dusk-to-dawn light...just has a light sensor. Just leave the light switch on and it turns on/off at sunset and sunrise.
