Lofa Tatupu working out for Denver Broncos


Lofa Tatupu hasn't played football in three seasons, but at least one NFL team hasn't given up on the free-agent middle linebacker.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the former Seattle Seahawks defender will work out for the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, per a source close to the player.

Injuries have sideswiped Tatupu's career. Double knee surgery in 2011 was followed by a torn pectoral muscle the next summer in camp with the Atlanta Falcons. Rapoport was told that Tatupu was ready to return to the field last offseason, but the linebacker failed to generate interest on the open market.

Tatupu was a three-time Pro Bowl pick with the Seahawks and one of the league's better middle linebackers during his six-season run in the Pacific Northwest.

Tuesday's tryout is a promising development for the 31-year-old, but the visit tells us more about the Broncos, who continue their hunt for talent at middle linebacker after making midseason changes at the position during each of the last two campaigns.

Denver also hosted free agent D'Qwell Jackson on Sunday, one of five visits the former Cleveland Browns defender has lined up on the heels of his release.

The Broncos are spreading a wide net for help at the Mike slot. We'd be surprised if Tatupu winds up as their answer.

I just made a Lofa Tatupu in the bathroom. Maybe Denver can work that out too? Might improve thier defense.

As far as Jackson, they definitely need more Browns front 7 guys.
