EDIT: Holy Shit!! 20 Feet might be the best single thing I've seen in a year. Don't want to say too much about it, because it's very comprehensive and very informative. But I honestly think I changed my perspective on what I enjoy and and expect from music. It's about back up singers and an exploration of why they don't become stars, despite usually being more talented than the leads, often more talented than just about anyone on earth. If nothing else it's an 1:30 of the best music you'll hear most anywhere, and the performances had me in tears several times. But there's so much that is instantly familiar with that you had no idea the whole story about. Couple nuggets, Luther Vandross sings background on David Bowie's Young Americans. You know that 'all night, young americans, young americans, they were the young americans.' Luther was in that mix. What do you think of really when you think of one of the top 15 rock songs of all time 'Gimme Shelter.' It's the female harmonies to start it off, then the 'rape. murder it's just a shot away' sung by the backup singer. That same singer would be backing up Buck Owens in a few weeks, then Joe Cocker a few after that., then a sitcom jingle spot. And in 1989, Mick found a young girl with a hot bod who could pull the Gimme Shelter licks off and she's been touring with them ever since.
