yeah, next laptop gets linux no matter what. I pretty much only use them for web surfing anyway. Suppose I should stay away from HP though since this one has never let me install Linux on it.

It's probably an AHCI error, some of the distros changed the AHCI drivers and it has a bug.

You could try changing the controller Mode in the bios to IDE, but a Warning it that could hose your Windows install.

Damn, I forgot to mention that, Great idea.

Could do virtual PC or Vmware server or Vmware player.

You can even install Hyper-v on Windows 8.1.
