Let's discuss how Chiefs 2014 sets up 2015

Based on the last few weeks have played out, there's a few interesting things to consider at lots of different positions. And in many cases, we should consider tinkering in 2014 to find answers:

QB - Hope Murray progresses enough to cut Daniel and his contract yesterday. We don't know how quickly Murray is progressing. Any backup snaps in garbage time this year should go to Murray

TE - Do we cut Fasano next year if Kelce and Harris continue to progress? Common sense answer is yes, but he's not bad depth and we're only saving $2M if we cut him next year

Center - This is a no-brainer. Re-sign Hudson at market value, which should be about $3-4M. Although if they cut him loose Kush is a good replacement option

Guard - I don't care about continuity. Get McGlynn out of there yesterday. I know Fulton is young but just not excited about the kid's ceiling. Do we consider prepping Kush for a transition to Guard to be a flex Guard/Center (since Hudson may have locked the position down)? Do we consider starting Duvarney-Tardif the minute he seems ready? I am betting both Fulton and McGlynn are not starting by year end. Will be interesting to see who the starting 2 will be

Right Tackle - Another interesting question... Jeff Allen and Stephenson should probably be starting. Are we better off with Allen at RT and Stephenson at Guard? Or Stephenson at RT and Allen at Guard? I actually think Allen is better suited for Right Tackle and that Stephenson would make a good Guard

Safety - Abdullah seemed very comfortable in the Strong Safety role. Even though Ryan defenses focus on playmakers at SS and heady but less athletic guys at FS, think it's time to change that. When Berry comes back from injury, will they plug him in at FS?

DE - Interesting situation. Cutting DeVito next year saves you $4M, but Bailey and Vickerson will be free agents and could see sizeable pay bumps. If Catapano comes back and has a strong finish, which of Bailey, Vickerson, and DeVito do you keep / cut? What is the max you'd be willing to pay Bailey and Vickerson to keep them around next year (especially Vickerson, who will be 32)?

ILB - When DJ and Mays comes back, what happens? We all think JMJ should keep starting next to DJ, but will Sutton start Mays or Mauga over JMJ?

OLB - If Ford shows progress, do you pay Hali $14M to be on the roster next year? What do you pay Houston -- I think best option is to franchise him next year then immediately work on a 2015 extension (when more cap space will become available).

Bowe, Avery and Jenkins are probably all gone next season. We're going to need at least 2 WRs for a second offseason in a row.

I would think DJ and Hali are both gone also...

Next season is the perfect storm to reload this roster. Lots of Picks, lots of players that need replaced with younger players...

Should be a big ****ing year in FA and the draft next year...

I'm all for getting rid of Daniel. As long as he's there, we'll never know what we have in either Murray or Bray. I agree with your thought about the guards. I'd sure like to see Doc get a shot at starting next season. You are correct about the C position as well.
I'd love to keep DJ if he's able to come back. I think he's a valuable leader on the D and even at 75%, better than any other option we have. The question is going to be at OLB. Houston hasn't shown me that he's worth what he wants and he's likely to shop anyway. Dee Ford may never be ready. Bring Tamba back on a team-friendly deal. I think he wants to finish out in KC.
Jenkins and Avery can go tomorrow. Hemingway is valuable on STs, but I'm not sure what he'd cost. The only reason Bowe hasn't been sent down the road is we have no one else to take his place. Same with S. Smith.

Daniel is shit and needed to go about a month ago, but he is not preventing Bray or Murray from seeing the field.

I would try to trade Murray, Keep Bray and if you can't trade Murray keep Daniels. I would get Kush in the lineup as soon as we are out of contention, if we are out of contention. Let him play center and move Hudson to LG. Fulton doesn't impress me, have to replace. I can live with Stephenson at RT. Cut Hali and DJ and Ford replaces Hali. Cut Nico Johnson. Let Bailey walk, same with DeVito. Keep Walker, cut Vickerson. Let Howard play and draft a DE. Draft WR's, keep Albert, cut Hemingway, keep Bowe, cut Avery and possibly Hammond (make or break year). Cooper isn't going to make it, have to draft a CB in the first round. Use the abundance of picks to find LB's and 2 $%^$&^%$ guards.

I love Tamba but lets face reality. Ford was drafted to replace Hali and his huge contract.

If DJ only gets $5mil next year then it doesn't make much sense to cut him. I guess if one of the young ILBs really shine this year then you can consider it. I just haven't seen much from those guys so far. Run defense has really struggled due to those guys not maintaining gap responsibilities.

Bowe is not performing anywhere close to his salary. And from what I understand his MJ issue and suspension also voided the guarantee in his contract. So I see no reason to not cut him after this season. Unless he really blows up, of course.

I like Fasano but has that guy ever stayed healthy for a season? Seriously, I'm asking because I don't know. Kelce looks to be the real deal and I would love to see him starting by midseason (or sooner).

I feel Abdullah is adequate at FS.

Fulton is a rookie so he's not going to look great this year. Hopefully, he will improve throughout the season and that won't be much of a concern going into next season.

I never thought Jeff Allen was that great at LG until I saw how terrible his replacement is.

I hope Stephenson comes back after the NE game and shores up that spot. He did not look that great in preseason IIRC.

Leadership. Leadership; Leadership. His cap number doesn't cripple the team. He's invaluable as a mentor to younger players. Smart, instinctive players can still make plays when their physical tools deteriorate.

Who was one of the first players out of the stadium after KC got swept by the Broncos last year?
