I don't necessarily agree with this because of the way passing yards are calculated.

I think it's entirely possible that a guy like Maclin or Wilson or any other speedster, something the Chiefs haven't had in decades, could take short passes and turn them into big gainers that add up to 1,000 yards or more by season's end.

But I do agree that if it happens, it likely won't be because Smith threw the ball down field and connected dozens and dozens of times for it to happen.

Barring Maclin's missed season due to injury, he has averaged 69 catches a year. Alex Smith has averaged 11 yards per completed pass over his career and has sustained that average over his last four seasons of play.

Combine those two averages and Maclin is a roughly 750~ yard receiver..

Philly also had DeSean Jackson, Brent Celek and Shady.

Do your research so you don't embarrass yourself.

As much.

The Chiefs should put Maclin in the slot. Let him move around at the LOS to get some easy separation.

Okay, fine. The number one receiving "threat" in terms of total yardage in Andy Reid's offense has only had a thousand yards of receiving four times: Terrell Owens in '04 with 1200 and 15.6 yards per reception in 2004, Kevin Curtis in '07 with 1100 and 14.4 y/r, and DeSean Jackson in '09 and '10 with 1156 and 1056 and yards per catch marks of 18.6 and 22.5 respectively.

Under Reid, Maclin was the number one receiver by yardage once where he recorded 857 yards with a 12.4 yards per catch average in 2012. His career average of yards per season is 954 coming in from a yards per catch average of 13.8. For comparison, he totaled 1318 total yards last season with 15.5 yards per catch.

Now, at this point you can disregard what I'm about to say with the retort that Smith has never had a receiver worth a shit and I totally expect that. With this in mind, in the seasons where Alex Smith has started 15+ games, his top receivers in terms of yards per catch that don't include gadget plays with the likes of Isaac Sopoaga and Joe Staley as eligible receivers read as follows:

Bryan Gilmore with 18.8 y/r over 8 catches, Antonio Bryant with 18.3 y/r over 40 catches and Vernon Davis y/r with 13.3 over 20 catches in 2006.

Josh Morgan with 14.7 y/r on 15 catches in 2011.

AJ Jenkins with 16.3 y/r on 6 catches and Donnie Avery with 14.9 y/r on 40 catches in 2013.

Albert Wilson 16.3 y/r over 16 catches,Travis Kelce with 12.9 y/r over 67 catches in 2014 and Dwayne Bowe with 12.6 y/r over 60 catches in 2014.

... along with every other primary receiver getting around 12 yards a catch or less in the four seasons (2006, 2011, 2013, 2014) where Alex Smith started 15 or more games.

You take Maclin's, Reid's and Alex Smith's histories into consideration it seems to me that it's more likely that Jeremy Maclin will not have 1,000 yards under Andy Reid given that the only time's that has happened in his career as a coach is when the second and third receiving options were guys who you could count on both to get 600+ yards along with the fact that Maclin himself has only eclipsed 900+ yards twice in his short career and the fact that receivers who play with Smith aren't generally in a position to get the necessary amount of yards per catch to gain more than 1,000 yards.

Things happen for reasons. You are stretching with your deductive nonsense that they somehow don't care the guys most suited for yards don't get them when they need to get yards.

Reid had great defenses with Jim Johnson for years.
Alex Smith has had great defenses for years.
They've had great RBs to use.

This funnels the game-plan to a type they are fond of to begin with. Ball control and runs/short passes.

McNabb only had 2 seasons with a lot of passes. 2nd year was meh. 2008 was a year Philly got to 4000 yards.

It was an ultra-Reid type year. Desean was the shot guy mostly and got 900.
The craziness is...
Hank Baskett
Brian Westbrook
Kevin Curtis
Jason Avant
Avg. of 400 yards each

Correll Buckhalter
Brent Celek
L.J. Smith
Reggie Brown
Greg Lewis
Avg. of 300 yards each

But when things didn't go well. Worse defense, 2 strong WRs.
2010...
Desean 1000 yards
Maclin 900

2011...
Both were 1000 if they played 16 games

The slot requires "tight" windows. Windows that by Alex-standard are...unpossible.
