And in his previous appearance roeth puts up a QB rating of 22.6 and beats Seattle for the ring. Doesn't even average 200 yards/game on the year...
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/gamelo...roethlisberger Do people on this board even watch football? I'm trying to understand where people pull these 'facts' that 300+ yard throwing QBs can make up for a piss poor defense |

I think the elimination of stupid ****ing polls might do it for me. Seriously. Do your part. Let me be a sheep and enjoy this season without some 1/3 witted narrative that was created by a teenage virgin stat wielding geeko nerd who never played a down of football in his life being forced into your skull.
For ****s sake. |

That's a given. The same could be said for any position. Nobody in their right mind is advocating to take a reach.

Most important position in sports. Bargaining agreement means if you miss, throw him away and go get another, Alex will never get better, Backups can't even beat Alex, At least we tried, 1983, Blah, Blah, Blah.

Baby Lee is using anti-vaxxer type of logic concerning the Chiefs.. the same type of logic sandy dumbass uses when defending Alex.
When it comes to drafting and developing QBs, we have a ton of evidence through the teams that are routinely winning 10+ regular season games, are routinely in the playoffs, and are winning championships. But if you believe Baby Lee, there's no reason why the Chiefs should be losing playoff games with QBs like Grbac as long as kickers like Stoyanovich are making 40+ yard field goals. When it comes to Alex Smith, we have 9+ seasons of statistics and video evidence that he's not really that much better than Kyle Orton at winning playoff games -let alone regular season games-, but sandy dumbass believes a losing effort against Indianapolis is enough to think he can turn in a Brady-esque performance when necessary. Just like how we have years of evidence that vaccines aren't the sole cause of autism, yet if you believe a falsified article in the Lancet and Jenny McCarthy, getting and spreading the measles are preferable to some children not being comfortable around other people.

Second, Orton has NEVER played a playoff snap. Again, I'm not behind Alex, come hell or high water, but compare that to a comeback victory, an NFC championship game, and the BEST ****ING QB PERFORMANCE the Chiefs have ever had. So he's been objectively a lot better. That's a ****ing reeruned comparison. But then, what would your perpetual sad sack act be without rampant hyperbole. Alex is no Brady, but he's far from an Orton. But then again, this isn't about an accurate assessment of my opinion or Alex's, or the team's performance. It's about distorting my position to something your can argue more comfortably, colloquially known as a strawman. If you want to salvage ANYTHING from your shit analogy. We have years of evidence that QBs are not the sole source of championship success. But if you believe the reeruns around here, grab one, see what you got, maybe try again a time or two or three, . . . THEN go cobble together 52 other slapdicks around him and a coaching staff to make him shine. Pioli's 22 guys off the street is a more well-reasoned gameplan.

And please don't throw out a whole bunch of shit from a previous era of football before the spread and relaxed pass defense rules. I've made this very simple. I don't know how much simpler you want me to put this for you. A good game manager needs to do two things. Convert third downs. And close games. You can look at my comments on Alex Smith and I've given him three years and I've given him opportunities to do that. He hasn't. He has been horrible at both and I already "proved" that to you in the last post. |

Yeah, Ben threw a 22 rating against Seattle in the Super Bowl. No mention that he had 8 tds in the 3 playoff games leading up to the Super Bowl? And is your argument seriously that it's unfair to Alex that he doesn't have a top 3 defense, because that's what brady and big Ben had early on. Big Ben has 21 playoff tds in 15 games. Alex had only thrown 20+ once in 16 games, and that's regular season. He had a spectacular playoff run in his first super bowl and led an incredible 4q super bowl performance in the second. More importantly, he evolved into a 4000 yard Passer as the game changed. He has 35 4q game winning drives to Alex smith's 15. |

If it's 3rd and 10, and Alex throws a screen pass that nets 8... is the QB to blame? If it's 3rd and 10, and Andy draws up a quick, short pass... the ball is caught by Albert for 6, but he only gets 2 yds YAC.. is the QB to blame? If it's 3rd and 10, and the 12 yard pass is dropped, is the QB to blame? If it's 3rd and 3, and the called run play goes for 2 yds, is the QB to blame? If the offense is forced to take back a lead with under two minutes to go... needing to go 80 yards... with this OL... how much blame should the QB really get? There are times when this QB is to blame for a failed conversion or game-ending, failed drive... but I would easily expect that his individual blame is not as grand as you want to make it out to be.

A lot of "defensive" championships were not actually the team having a great D but a team having an innovative D that other teams didn't yet know how to account for.
Tampa 2 and the Ravens schematically were unique. At this point, in order to win with D you'd need a coordinator who started doing stuff other teams weren't used to yet... (Seattle did this with press cover 3) |
