"Is Having Alex Smith the Worst Purgatory in Football?"--Dan LeBatard

He mentioned it a few times on his radio show today. The quotes in reference is from the top of the second hour. in full:

"What is the worst purgatory in football? Is it Alex Smith, where you're going to be OK, and hugely boring, and never win anything, or is it the whole Philip Rivers situation of always being down late and having to go the whole length of the field?"

"It's not Hell; it's Purgatory. You're OK, but you're not good enough and you're not going to be good enough."

"You're not going to do any sort of meaningful winning with Alex Smith as your QB. Nothing."

"It's hard to watch when you watch what they were playing against and he's, 'all I wanna do is not turn the ball over, all I wanna do is it's 3rd and 9 and I'll throw it three yards, or I'll take a sack.'"

"You'll get to the playoffs, and you'll lose."

It's almost like everyone outside of 1 Arrowhead Drive knows that Smith isn't anything more than a seat warmer for a future QB at best.

If Smith pisses down his leg in the first half at Oakland, I replace him at the half and never ever look back

At least Foles would be able to utilize our speed at receiver

The time to replace a QB is during a bye week. If he starts the Oakland game he'll finish the season under center barring injury.

No amount of bad play can get Smith benched by Reid. None.

You know that's not happening. We were down by 40 points and Reid wouldn't pull that piece of shit QB.

You're correct, the time to replace him is now. But since we know that wont happen, I was kinda dreaming that it could happen if Smith really stinks it up at oakland

Posted this way back in 2013 when the trade went down, sort of prophetic if I do so myself, whiffed on the Poe analysis but such as it is.

One QB bust 30 years ago and KC will not draft a QB in the first round. But we keep picking DL (both DT & DE) in the 1st round over and over (Sims, Dorsey, Jackson, Poe) and they either bust or do not live up to thier draft position. But by God let's clamor for another DL in the 1st again. Or better yet, let's draft a OT in the 1st.

We are stuck, baring an injury, with Alex Smith for at least 3 years. During this time the fan base will buy more tickets and merchandise and the parking lot will be filled again. It will be just like 1990's all over again. Clark will be happy, some fans will be happy and the Chiefs will still be in the same postition they are now, a good team and not a great team which is held back by the lack of play from the QB.

I'll root for them, just not going to drink the Kool Aid. Until this team gets serious in drafting and developing a starting QB of its own and gives up picking up other team's scraps I'm done being a die hard fan.

If/when they trade for another backup or go with Foles (without a 1st/2nd rd rookie QB behind him) that'll be it for me.
The Chiefs have had some good teams capable of going deep in the playoffs, but QB has always held them back.

If they don't invest in a QB after this year, why would you invest in them as a fan?

Cant argue against that, its well past time to invest a top pick
