"Is Having Alex Smith the Worst Purgatory in Football?"--Dan LeBatard

He mentioned it a few times on his radio show today. The quotes in reference is from the top of the second hour. in full:

"What is the worst purgatory in football? Is it Alex Smith, where you're going to be OK, and hugely boring, and never win anything, or is it the whole Philip Rivers situation of always being down late and having to go the whole length of the field?"

"It's not Hell; it's Purgatory. You're OK, but you're not good enough and you're not going to be good enough."

"You're not going to do any sort of meaningful winning with Alex Smith as your QB. Nothing."

"It's hard to watch when you watch what they were playing against and he's, 'all I wanna do is not turn the ball over, all I wanna do is it's 3rd and 9 and I'll throw it three yards, or I'll take a sack.'"

"You'll get to the playoffs, and you'll lose."

Alex Smith is perfect for most of the fan base and the Hunt's. 9-7 to 11-5, draft more lineman or defense. Fire up the BBQ grill, Natty Light and lets tailgate.

HA!

I got perma banned HERE sunday night for pointing out that Big Ben had more TD's than incompletions, I did call Big Ben what I call him at OM and I did say IN-Com-Pletions.

I had to send an email asking for a 2nd chance, I even offered to serve a week or 2 ban but some mod reneabled my account.

Taco and crew are much more lenient. The only thing they don't tolerate is family smack.

I stopped bothering to even check out OM and I hardly ever posted there even before then. Baiting rival fans with insults and when someone responds with equal measure to a donkey fan they cry to mommy and ban the opposing team's fan and turn a blind eye to the instigator(s).

Worse than that catty bitch behavior is there's literally zero discussion beyond sophomoric jokes about the Chiefs or this or that team. The rest is just a bunch of people acting as online fluffers for the Donkeys.

Between the Tire Fire days of Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards and Scott Franchise Killer Pioli, and then right the **** after that the CTE bullshit starts and they pull half our starters out because of "concussions" when we are raping some fools in the playoffs, to Donks becoming cheap shot artists and Von Douche not getting fined for obviously teeing off on Smith. Late. With the Crown. Launching. While a week later Tampa gets one for a fat OL sitting on him. Then through the whole London home game crap. All the way through to the tampering shit, Sean Smiths ridiculous suspension. Then these mother****ers like Richard Sherman says his knees hurt while I climb on the tractor with arthritis in my knees ankles and hands but don't happen to have any $20M checks laying around. I'm just ****ing tired man. What the **** am I rooting for? It used to be football. Now it's ****ing asenine PR driven nonsense that has only an ancillary correlation to football.

I'm not mad. Its just annoying that its done with basically every QB in the NFL. Bortles and Tyrod just happen to be the latest examples.
Yes, you are.

Bortles? You mean the second coming of Matt Stafford? Garbage time stats don't mean anything...

Based on my 40+ years as a Chiefs fan, here's how I think our future unfolds at QB over the next 4 years. We sign Smith to an extension that runs through 2018 then we trade the Patriots a 1st-round pick for 3rd-string Jacoby Brissett. Or we trade the Vikings a 1st round pick for Bridgewater's backup, Sam Bradford. Or we trade for RG3. You know the drill. Why take a chance on drafting a young QB that might fail when there are so many stiffs out on the scrap heap to chose from?

And you know that future QB will never come from the draft. 1983, Blackledge is still the last Chiefs QB to be drafted and win a game. Come on now, Browns have managed to do this multiple times over.

I find it impossible to believe that Dorsey who came from GB would bring Smith back. Unless he completely does a 180 and starts playing like a real QB it just can't happen.

the same dorsey that traded 2 picks for him?

that passed on carr, bridgewater, prescott and lynch?

the same one that has assembled one of the worst QB rosters in the league?

the one that pederson left so he could draft a real QB?

Smith will be here with bells on next year

Smith is good enough that he won't implode. I expect him to play well against the Raiders, but look like Cassel in other games.

He'll hang around the 20 td/10 int stat line, win enough games and be in uniform next year.

Our only hope is Andy Reid wakes up and cuts bait; I doubt this will happen.

I think you might be overshooting the argument.

Pederson didn’t flee because he was trying to escape. He got offered a HCing position.

Dorsey came in with Andy and got his coach the QB he sought given the QB situation in KC to stabilize a franchise in freefall.

So, if your indictment on the GM is drafting or missing spotting QB talent that's a bit of a reach given his hand in things in Green Bay.

Nobody was pimping for Carr. Bridgewater isn't even playing and Lynch wasn't even available when we were picking and without a 2nd round pick we didn't have any way of matching or beating a trade offer to move up. Nevermind the fact he's not starting or proven shit as if he's a presumptive miss. In fact, the jury's still out on all the guys you mentioned.

Nevermind the fact that the offensive talent around Smith up until this year and last was so bad, QB wasn't the biggest glaring issue. But of course, making back to back playoffs, Smith's performance in the Indy game, and winning their first game in a blowout on the road in a generation by the franchise - of course the offseason should have been devoted to finding a QB!?!?

You wanna argue about Smith's ceiling? Fine.

Doing it vis à vis shitting on the guy who rebuilt the entire roster and some extremely poor examples might be the dumbest logical path to take!

You're full of shit. You like to show up at opportune times and don't contribute to the community in any other way. We've always had rules against that, and the Mane has banned long time members over there after bad losses. Contribute to the community and you can troll all you want for the most part. Only come over after big losses and talk shit and you won't get a 3rd chance.
