I’d rather overpay for that than a defender who isn’t going to change things all that much. Adding Watkins to this offense could legitimately change everything. It adds a whole other dimension. No more stacking the box whatsoever.
That's the thing - outside of Wilkerson, there's not really anything on defense that will make a difference to spend on.

Then why do we HAVE to do their strategy of buying big on a free agent WR?

Look, I'm not completely shitting on spending the money or even spending it on a WR, but for $13 million/year (more than what we gave Maclin) I'd like to see some more evidence from the dude we're buying that the deal will be worth the money.

Yeah, I'm not big on the amount or the player, but the process works for me. So i'll roll with it as it seems like the right thing to do, strategically.

You could probably get Richardson who had similar production last year for nearly half the cost.

I don't get being upset about potentially spending money on a 25 year old wr, but then wanting to spend a similar amount on a 31 year old DL with issues.

There’s not, and that’s why Veach is doing this. He’s going to sign a couple of defenders that are decent, but for the most part he’s going to draft that side of the football and get younger there.
