For a team like mine (Iowa), winning 9 or 10 games and playing in a good bowl is nirvana. Once you get past the handful of powerhouse perennials, there's a ton of parity in that 2nd tier of power conference teams.

The NFL is completely "all or nothing" and despite all of the mechanisms in place to create parity, there really isn't any. It's just like college only on a much smaller scale with absolutely zero consolation for anyone other than the SB winner.

Being content with mediocrity doesn't mean the NCAA isn't severely flawed.

10 wins and a conference championship isn’t mediocrity, it’s a success but in a relative sense. In college football, you can end the season with a win even if you aren’t #1. That gives fans hope, even if they know their team will realistically be as good as Alabama or Ohio State. College football can be fun even when your team isn’t the best. The NCAA isn’t perfect but it certainly doesn’t suck. It’s just different than the NFL, which is a good thing. The NFL is pretty boring anymore.
