People can be very stubborn and many of us were apparently born to find the extreme edge of every generally accepted parameter of deportment.

So what do you do? Sit your child in a corner until their brain evolves and their emotions mellow? Or, do you cut to the chase and use violence to establish the boundaries of acceptable behavior?

I lean toward a combination of both reason and ass-whooping.

You are definitely one of or if not the best poster on this forum. Corporal punishment is definitely something that needs to be addressed. By people with experience and not people in the media just wanting to make headlines.
